The gold museum is a simple but convenient setup to learn about the history of the area. It gives you a good amount of information without taking all day to do it. We were in and out in less than an hour.

This old courthouse has had the lower floor converted into a museum retelling the history of the first gold rush! It was very informative and the upstairs is still laid out like it was when it was a courthouse. The guide was very informative. great place to see

The Dahlonega Gold Museum is in the center of the square in Dahlonega. Free Parking is easily found within a block or two. There were NO BATHROOMS so we had to leave to find a bathroom in an adjacent business and then return. The entrance staff seemed to take it all in stride. The site area on the first floor is limited. The staff/docent on the second floor was distracted by other tourists from Germany and his own personal interests. He did not prepare an organized history of the artifacts or the building. I had expected to hear more about the building itself, especially in the Civil war and its uses since then.

A person will enjoy watching the brief video of the area and then touring through the museum. Many artifacts are displayed along with an explanation with each one. Take time to read each one to get the full affect.

This was a little museum with lots of history of the area before and after the Gold Rush. I love history especially local history and I enjoyed everything. The rangers were so friendly and were more than willing to answer any questions. If you are not into history or if you have children I would skip this attraction.
