“Great staff, but when all's said and done...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2014

Great staff, but when all's said and done... a Marriott is a Marriott is a Marriott. The decor was really rather unexciting, but the bed was as comfortable as in every other Marriott, which of course is what you should expect.

Thank you for choosing our "Historic Marriott Hotel" with the location of choice for those who enjoy our beautiful downtown "RiverWalk" on the Chattahoochee River! We are so excited about the addition of "White Water Rafting" within walking distance to our downtown Hotel, in addition to many new venues and Restaurants as well. We are so glad you enjoyed a "great night's sleep" and as we continue to upgrade our guest rooms, please let us know the next time you plan a trip to Columbus, Georgia! We would be honored to have you again with us.*

Having just returned from a 4 day stay in Columbus Georgia I have to mention the Columbus Marriott as surely having the nicest, friendliest staff of any hotel I have stayed in anywhere from the Doorman to the Counter staff to the people in the restaurant and the Concierge room. I particularly have to mention Sean, Alexis and Paula as being so welcoming and accommodating. Free breakfast - no problem. Late checkout - no problem. The hotel itself is a good standard 4-star but the staff, for me, made all the difference and so it merits 5 stars! Thanks folks, you made 4 Brits feel very welcome!

When returning our son to college far from home Mom and Dad need a mental boost and this property provides each time. This complex is built in and between former factory buildings and takes us back in time. The location to the thriving historical downtown and the river is walking perfection. If you are near Columbus do not stay anywhere else. WAR EAGLE!!!!

We are certainly honored you continue to choose to stay with us as you come to visit CSU with family! The College continues to grow in our downtown area and with the RiverWalk right across the street, CSU has plans for additional "outdoor entertainment" as they have Campus Buildings right on our RiverWalk as well!

Probably the best hotel in the best location for Columbus, Georgia. It is in a renovated factory and has a lot of charm. Can't beat the location, but do skip the buffet breakfast. It was abysmal. There is one quirk which may bother some visitors. There is a train track and on Friday night at 1 in the morning, the train came by blasting it's horn and it sounded like it was going right through the room. They even provided ear plugs in the room with a warning. The train did not come Saturday night, however. It was not a big deal and maybe it added to the downtown charm. Columbus has been upgraded and made into a vibrant and charming downtown. You would miss a lot if you stayed outside of the downtown area, so train or not, we really liked the hotel (except for the really, really bad breakfast!)

Room Tip: Ask for one as far from the train tracks as possible!

Thank you for highlighting the "historic charm" our guests feel when staying with us as we do have so much history here, in our downtown area and the "train" that runs near our Hotel - does create that feel from time to time as well! Our wonderful "Houlihan's Restaurant" is constantly adding new menu features and we look forward to your return to "try something new" upon your next visit with us!

I had an outstanding experience with the staff at the Columbus Marriott. This was my second trip to this hotel, and Earnest the bellman remembered my name, helped me with my luggage and went out of his way to ensure some fresh produce I had bought at a farm stand along the way had plenty of ice on it. He actually went and got extra ice for me without saying a word about what he was doing. This is the kind of thoughtfulness and attention to the customer that I have always experienced at this hotel.
The restaurant hotel, Houlihan's, also offered a great selection of entrees and provides great service. Josh, our server, easily handled a large party of festive family members and ensured our drinks were always full and everything arrived on time, from the entrees to the dessert. He was attentive without hovering, and interacted with us in a way that improved our experience there. He suggested wine pairings and favorite dishes.
The building is beautiful with lots of original historical details, but the front of the hotel faces an in-use train track. If you can, request the "pool side" view which mitigates the late night noise from the train.

Mr. Earnest is our "best of service" employee of the Year when it comes to taking care of our Guests and "remembering their names upon returning"! You are very special to us and to Mr. Earnest and I shared your wonderful comments with him today! Josh loves his job as a server in our delicious "Houlihan's" Restaurant and he also looks forward to your return in the near future!

Beautiful opportunity for Marriott to have a great location. Unfortunately, the beauty stops at the lobby. The rooms are small, the furnishings are very worn, the guest room door allows light to shine through from the hallway all the way around [almost as bright as Jesus himself standing outside your room door]. The restaurant food is good, but the service in the restaurant and at the bar is awful. Our meal came out one person at a time for a table of four. Drinks were not replenished or even offered. The bar had two tenders that worked the service section and hardly tended to my wife and I. It took 10 minutes to be noticed, and 30 minutes to pay the tab for one drink. The worst offense came from the bar tender, who stuck a straw in my wife's drink to sample it, when my wife said that it tasted funny and was not what she ordered. I have never seen such an ill-mannered service employee in all of my life. Truly disgusted. The good news is that the restaurants downtown, in walking distance, got all of our business the rest of the weekend. Go to the Loft or The Loft downstairs and have the unstuffed chicken. Marriott ought to steal some of their [The Loft] employees away, because they are super-nice. Oh yeah, pool was dirty and full of algae.

Our son got married across the street at the Trade Center so we blocked a large number of rooms for our families who were coming in from out of town. The help and attention we received from Mary and Meisha in group bookings was second to none. They helped us throughout the entire process and kindly adjusted our many changes! Everyone was most complimentary of the staff and the breakfast buffet. The rooms were lovely and the whole experience was all we ever wanted. THANKS Meisha! THANKS Mary! I highly recommend the Columbus Marriott for your family or business event and/or for a fun day enjoying all Columbus has to offer.
