Decided to give it a try and very happy we did. Started with the salad with black eye peas, onion, absolutely delicious! Plenty to share. We also had the egg rolls with collard greens in them, and the greens were wonderful. For entrees we had the shrimp and grits, which we all agreed were our least favorite. The bacon cabanara was unique, yummy, creamy. The pork chop was HUGE and potatoes with it fantastic. The kabobs were good also, but not as much kabob to rice ratio you really need. Service great. Only real negative is you have to go outside, then to lobby to go to bathroom. But we will be back.

We were visiting the Columbus area and checked TA and Yelp for dinner recommendations. This restaurant is a real gem, especially if you want a great meal while holding a conversation. The food was delicious (southern egg roll starter, chicken kabobs with an amazing caesar salad, Georgia cobb salad, and fresh catch of day).
The service was attentive and slow-paced, which was perfect for my group as we wanted to talk. We agree that location may hinder its traffic, but the restaurant itself is very classy and intimate. I hope the good folks in Columbus will support it!

We arrived shortly after 6 pm on a weeknight. Had to wait a few minutes before we were greeted by anybody. There was no wine list, but wine was available, along with beer and (apparently) mixed drinks. So we asked about Pinot Noir and were shown a label, which turned out to be a very tasty wine.

We chose samosas from an interesting selection of appetizers -- chutney was not available, due to the previous day's severe storms in Atlanta. But they were delightfully spicy and moist.

From the short, eclectic menu we chose chicken tikka kebabs and the cabernet burger, served with potatoes and a little bleu cheese on top. Kebabs were very mild and served with a nice tamarind sauce, but the burger was excellent. No dessert was offered, but we did not ask.

In some measure, this menu looks like bar food, and a large part of the floor space is given over to a bar. But the portions are dinner-size, and the selections are eclectic and creative, e.g. the coffee-rubbed pork chop. It suited our needs very well for a pre-theatre dinner.

Dined here on Valentine's Day, expected a wait but was able to get seated right away. Menu is very interesting, service was great and food was excellent. Started off with fried Calamari, the dipping sauce made this dish. Entrée was fresh Snapper, cooked perfectly; crispy skin and flakey, moist meat. Finished with the Cheesecake, the best I've ever had. Very impressed with the entire experience, just down the street from the Springer.

Let's get this out of the way first. Yes, they are in the Howard Johnson Motel on Veterans Parkway downtown. They are there because, as I read in the newspaper, one of the partners' parents own the motel. There are some real advantages to their location. There is lots of parking, some right at the door. They are very close to all downtown activities and venues, including the Springer Opera Theater and RiverCenter.
Now, what you really need to know: the food is awesome! The décor is lovely. The owners and staff are very friendly and welcoming. The service is excellent. Our recommendations: Stuffed Portabella Puff Pastries - yum! Southern Bhel salad - "Indian spiced" - was so flavorful. Grilled Chicken Tikka Kabobs - great taste! We were too full for dessert, but we will be going back soon to try it. Their prices are very reasonable, and the portions are large. Zeal is well worth your giving them a try!
