“Good fish market and restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 9, 2013

Rose Hill is truly an institution in Columbus which I have frequented for over 40 years. The market and restaurant are only open Wednesday through Saturday for lunch or supper. The restaurant is most famous for its' fried catfish which is very good. They also serve broiled fish. The place is not at all fancy, nor is the food but it is the kind of place that you see your neighbors and old friends and the servers know a lot of the customers by name. Most of my trips to Rose Hill are for the oyster bar in the market side of the building. Again, nothing fancy but the best and freshest oysters in Columbus. Usually the oysters are from Apalachicola, FL and when unavailable from there, they are brought in from Texas. The price for them (around $7.50 a dozen) is a lot less than most places including places in Florida. An added bonus is the fact that you can bring in your own beer or wine. If you want to buy fish to cook yourself or enjoy a fish dinner without having to cook, this is the place.

“Truly a local, neighborhood icon!”

Parking lot is full = good food. Upon entering you wonder what is going on - fish fry fundraiser, smorgasbord ?

Great service!

Excellent catfish.

“A local institution”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 24, 2012 via mobile

Rose Hill Seafood is a local favorite. Every time I am in the Columbus area visiting family, Rose Hill is on the menu. While they have seafood of all types, their speciality is fried whole catfish. This is the sort of establishment that people generally love or hate with no in-between.

“Best Fish Fry & Oysters in town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2012

Two things Col's offers that cannot be passed up is Rose Hill and a bbq joint. Many of the waitresses have worked at RH for I would say at least 20 years. I can still walk in and when I get to the front of the line, they still recognize me, hug my neck and ask me how I'm doing. The severs are some of the best I've ever seen and can take care of the entire cafeteria with lightening fast speed. I wish I could get this service in other restaurants.

The fried catfish is cornbread battered and the way Southerners have been making it for years. I've never received any thing cooked in old oil (like the other catfish house). I've tried a few baked and broiled fishes and it is simple, fresh and to the point. Don't expect it to be fancied up because this is a fish fry and the point is to appreciate the fish.

The oysters are the biggest and freshest I've seen between Alabama and Georgia. The best flavor, and served with all the trimmings.

If you are looking for something pretentious, please, don't come here. We like our fish fries to be fun and frilly free in the south.

I love Rose Hill and never miss going there when I head home.
