This museum is really cool and has an unbelievable amount of information about civil war and War of 1812 naval history. It is great for families with kids. The displays are very interesting. We were there for the live cannon firing and although the cannon crew was a little disorganized, it was awesome to see the old cannon fired.

Who would have figured that there would be a Civil War naval museum in Columbus, Georgia. Located about a mile away from the Infantryman's Museum, an outstanding attraction, this museum is rather average for a military museum, showing where lack of funding reflects the quality of the exhibits, their display, etc. It has a nice background explaining naval ships and their role in helping the Confederacy, but the exhibits are dark, poorly lighted, and few. Then again, the confederate navy wasn't that big. Good for an hour stop; young kids will enjoy wandering around the life-size ship displays.

Who would ever think that a Naval Musuem would be located in Columbus, GA. Well, visiting the museum would be a nice surprise and a breath of fresh air. This is a fun time for the whole family and offers some very interesting information and exhibits that you wouldn't expect to find.

This is a wonderful place to see an actual Civil War ironclad hull and to learn the history of Port Columbus during wartime. The captured flags and/or battle flag collection is very impressive and the history is incredible. This is a great place to learn even more details about the Civil War that aren't taught in schools.
