We were fortunate to see a recent production of the musical "Damn Yankees" at this theatre. We loved visiting this beautiful historic gem in downtown Columbus. The 1871 Springer Opera House is the State Theatre of Georgia, and contains wonderful architectural details and private "boxes" on the three tiers near the stage. The ticket prices are very reasonable, and the show was fantastic. The lobby and hallways feature the photos of some of the famous names who have performed here ( Hal Holbrook, Burt Reynolds ect.). At intermission, be sure to get your refreshments in the "Saloon". This is a great choice for an evening out.

The historic Springer Opera House is the State Theater of Georgia. Beautifully restored and maintained, it offers a complete series of plays annually, all of them, in our experience, wonderfully performed. Unfortunately, there are few nearby restaurants of quality for pre- and post-performance dining, the closest one being The Market, approximately across First Avenue from the Opera House. Beverages, including spirits, and light refreshments are available during intermission and before performance in the Opera House's Saloon.

We attended the Springer in 2008 and in 2009. My sister in law and husband are going next week.

Such splender, to us, it really takes you back to yesteryear in times of afluenecy, genteel, refined folk.

My family & I have visited the Springer several times, most recently being in December 2007 to see "A Christmas Carol." It was an all-around-wonderful experience. We enjoyed the professional acting, beautiful period costumes and stage props/decor. We would like to make it a Christmastime tradition from now on. The entire "house" itself is really a beauty to behold. Tours are available on Mondays & Wednesdays at a cost of $5.00.
