We made this a stop during a long drive to stretch our legs and get some fresh air. It was gorgeous! We saw some kayakers and learned that 2 dams were recently removed from the river, which was certainly instrumental in the natural beauty that we experienced. There is a rafting company that I would love to check out next time! It was a great place to take pictures and I imagine a picnic would be fabulous if you timed it right...The bathrooms were open and clean but there was no soap and the water fountains did not work; this is pretty similar to every other public recreation area unfortunately so we carry hand sanitizer and our own water everywhere. There is free parking on the street if you can parallel park and garages if you can't.

We were in town for the weekend and my wife and I decided to visit the Riverwalk. Nice relaxing walk on a Sunday morning with people fishing and others walking including families with small children. The river was down that day and you could see dozens of turtles on the rocks in the river. Highly recommend.

It is so great that they have preserved this piece of history. You walk around the historic district along the river and read the informative signs.

We walked up as far as the islands on the Saturday. There was a couple getting wedding pictures taken on the island which was nice. Also a lot of cranes feeding but the water was pretty high making it difficult for them. Then we strolled back in the opposite direction for a few miles. There is nothing really spectacular to see but it is a very pleasant way to spend some chill time. Next day we went back and the islands were closed due to a major rise in the river level which gave some impressive rapids.

We went to the Riverwalk on Saturday and found out it was also a market day with various stalls...a live music was an added bonus. The market ran about 2 blocks between 10th & 12th street, but plenty of parking spaces were available.

After browsing the stalls and a lunch, we walked to the Riverwalk. Great place to walk. The river was wider than expected with boulders, many Herons and Turtles basking in the sun! By the old mill(?), the Whitewater rafting schedule is posted, so you can sit on the rocks and watch the whitewater rafts & kayaks coming down. It was a lot of fun. Not sure why no one swims in the water. A fisherman told me there are plenty of fish there.

Next time I visit Coumbus, GA, I am definitely returning to this place.
