Had the great idea to detour to Georgia during a long road trip to show the kids the Georgia Aquarium. Great idea except...forgot it was Spring Break and traveling with a big dog presented a challenge. All of the dog friendly hotels either were booked or charged ridiculous non refundable fees. Traveling with a dog, 3 and 5 year old and cranky husband, we almost decided to just throw in the towel and keep on down the road through the night. All available hotels were either in (very) questionable parts of town or reviews (on Tripadvisor...thank you very much) steered us clear. As a last ditch effort, we checked out this further off and lesser known hotel and wow...what a surprise. The pet rate was reasonable, the neighborhood was safe (and charming) and the rooms were above three star in my opinion for a two star hotel price!
The room was a decent size and very well appointed. The bed, as stated time and time again here IS, in fact, ridiculously comfortable and luxe. So much so that you do not mind the occasional train or airplane going by. It adds to the charm...if you will. The Aveda products are a huge plus and our room had a mural that replicated an old (still in business) laundr-o-mat in the area (Yes Hotel Indigo..we made the connection) and we thought that was very cool, charming and chic. The coffee in the room was a nice touch as well as the super luxe bedding.
However...there were several stray hairs in the shower...I have a two hair limit and that was exceeded so a word to the hotel management about being meticulous in the shower! Other than that, the hotel is just lovely and chic and trendy.
The restaurant is not terribly family friendly (kids are not offered coloring sheets and crayons, etc at breakfast) and it is, what some would consider, wildly expensive for any breakfast but it forced us to seek out a very clean, friendly and good IHOP (and I NEVER eat at IHOP) just five minutes away that my kids really enjoyed. Indigo does have TVs scattered about the eating area and I suppose you could ask them to put on cartoons in the morning?
But the lounge and restaurant areas DO have their merit. I would not hesitate for a minute to meet girlfriends here for drinks and dinner....and I usually dine with friends on South Beach ...this is comparable to that (minus the ocean and $20 martinis). This lounge/restaurant would be a great date night for someone too or just a place for an upscale business meeting. The furnishings and decor and ambiance are well worth trip even though for us, the service was terrible. TERRIBLE. Three waitresses running every which way for a glass of water or in search of a fork and napkin. I know Hotel Indigo will work on that and bring in some experience talent. Were I not in a rush, I would not have minded. And if you go for breakfast, try their oatmeal, it will change the way you think about oatmeal. :)
I walked my dog in the area at all hours and had no concern for safety...the area around is quite charming. A far leap from your average "hotel airport." Charm. Charm. Charm. One last parting issue for Hotel Indigo, please find a way to keep the doors from slamming as people come and go into their rooms. This is not a fun noise at any hour and not everyone remembers to "catch" the door as it closes. I am sure there is a 5 cent part out there somewhere that can relieve this issue.
Otherwise, well done. Thank you for being more than a tired and aggravated family expected during a three day stay-over. We would not hesitate for a moment to return.
