“Wonderful escape from the big city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 16, 2007

After finding the Beechwood Inn through TripAdivsor, we booked a one-night stay for the Natahala Suite. We arrived Saturday afternoon and were graciously shown around by David. The place is lovely, with a terrific view of the North Georgia mountains from the front porch (a great place to relax).

The Natahala Suite was perfect for our stay, with a comfortable queen bed. Because the evening and morning temps were dipping into the 50s, we took advantage of the floor heater that made the room toasty warm. The suite also had a private nook just outside with a loveseat to enjoy the sunset.

Be sure to take advantage of David and Gayle's extensive wine cellar. They are experts! We purchased a very affordable pinot grigio to enjoy in our suite that was just right, and they kindly provided an ice bucket and glasses.

Breakfast was delicious, with blueberry stuffed French toast. It was a perfect start to the day. Afterward, we wandered around out front and sat on the porch to enjoy the view.

We hope to return in the spring. It was a wonderful escape from Atlanta!

  • Liked — The personal service we received. They went out of their way to honor our requests.
  • Disliked — The only snafu was we were charged for two nights instead of one but they quickly fixed it.

Gayle and David are the perfect hosts. The inn is beautiful--ninty year old heart pine floors that have been restored, decorated in every detail, and kept in mint condition. Sitting on the porch at seven thirty in the morning with my coffee looking out at Black Rock Mountain and reading the AJC in 60 degree weather was exceptional. David cooks the best breakfast you will ever have.

It is often difficult to know if the glowing reviews are deserved on this site. Trust me; in this case the positive reviews are well deserved, and hard earned by the innkeepers, Gayle and David.

This was our second visit and I am sure we will return again and again. Everything is first class at this inn and the location is outstanding for those looking for a either a weekend away or a base to explore the Smoky Mountains for a week or so.

If you have the opportunity to dine at the Beechwood, don't pass it up. The dinners with wine pairings are as good as you will find in the finest NYC or SFO restaurant and the hospitality is much better. That is the truth.

After reading all of the reviews I was really totally disappointed. The best thing about the inn was the sheets. Very nice. The dinner was not worth the $95.00 per person. The food had no flavor, no presentation and the wines really didn't pair that well. We were expecting a "Mediterranean dinner" and we were hugely disappointed. The breakfast was akin to what you can get at a Dennys restaurant. The innkeeper was a bit pompous acting and not very friendly. There was only one wine offered at the social hour, the appetizer was bland and there were not enough chairs on the porch for all to sit on. We thought there were others there who felt the same way but none of us said anything as I was a bit intimidated by the aloof manner of the innkeeper. Normally I go to NC wine country and have wonderful stays in hospitable B&Bs. This was my first and last trip to Beechwood. While some of the wineries were nice, they could all take a lesson from NC.

Our weekend getaway to the Beechwood Inn was exquisite in every way. The rooms are uniquely cozy and the inn’s overall ambiance is fabulous. Owner’s Gayle and David Darugh provide the magic ingredient to this special inn. We loved “wine-thirty” and the Evening in Provence dinner on Saturday night. The Darugh’s extensive knowledge of wine added a distinctive element to our evening and their warm hospitality made our weekend. We were also impressed by Holly, who was incredibly helpful. We will be back and highly recommend the Beechwood Inn.

My husband and I recently spent several nights in the lovely Beechwood Inn. We found the ambiance to be charming, the accommodations excellent and the food extraordinary. We would definitely recommend this beautiful Inn to friends and do plan to return!

Gayle and David are the perfects hosts -- warm, knowledgable, and friendly. The Inn was quiet, charming, and inviting. The surroundings were gorgeous -- we particularly enjoyed taking in the view from the rocking chairs on the porch. Breakfast was creative and delicious every morning. We hope to make our next stay a weekend visit so that we can enjoy dinner and wine festivities at the Beechwood. This was by far our best experience at a B&B.
