Very nice and friendly service with a smile...and with great pizza to back it up! @ Mama Dar's.
Always in search of great good plain food, nearby, affordable, generous in servings/portions, and using excellent ingredients and skillful preparation. Food prepared to order...not fast food. Our bias is local individually owned restaurants and roadhouses rather than corporate chains. Mama Dar's fits this bill. They offer a wide variety of submarine sandwiches, finger food, and salads plus great pizza. They do a brisk take out business at times too!
Today we have found Mama Dar's PIzza, which is a small cafe drive in restaurant, (doesn't look like much from outside but venture in, you will be glad you did. The place is ultra clean, (recent Health Rating posted on the wall is 100%), a local place that is gaining name and fame in these parts, where folks come from all over to sample the pizza. Traveling as far as from Rabun, Habersham and Stephens Counties for the pies and philly cheese steak sandwiches, their most popular menu items.
We ordered a sampler appetizer basket with onion rings, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, marinara and ranch of blue cheese. The crunchy rings were great ditto the chicken fingers and mozzarella sticks! While we noched on the sampler, we observed from our seats, the 18" hand tossed pizza we ordered, being prepared, dough rolled out, tossed, shaped and then all our ingredients added and finished before popping into the brick oven...wow! We don't really have pizza made like this in these parts!!! No doughy crust pizza here, the brick oven gives a smooth and crisp crust that holds the abundant toppings without falling apart or drying out. What a great pizza!
Open 7 days a week from 11am til 900pm, closed on Easter Sunday so call in case you are wondering, before making the trip, to make sure... Our total bill was ...sampler $6.25; pizza 18" was gi-nourmous, pepperoni, black olives, onion and bacon $16.75. Coke in a can, .89. what a great deal! we took half the pizza home to eat later, only half pizza consumed. Next time we get a medium pizza and skip the sampler, we were stuffed!
If you have not tried Mama Dar's please check out them out off old 441 between the Turnerville post otfice and Hollywood...it is worth the drive and wait for a truly great pizza. Best wishes and much success to the folks at Mama Dar's!
