My family and I make it a point to come to this park every year at fall! The hike to the fort is incredible, the fort is awesome, and the overlook is breath taking! The only problem (and it's not even a real problem) is the lack of guide signs. Once your on a path, you had better stick to one direction (which the beaten trail isn't too hard to recoginze) or else you may sway elsewhere. Another feature that's a MUST is the small gully that washes over huge rocks and down the side of the mountain. This park is beautiful all times of the year, but most especially in the fall!

The drive in is a windy road, with several scenic pull-outs. In the valley the temp was 97 degrees, but up in the heavily wooded park it was only about 89-90. Big campsites with many pull-throughs. I don't think they have full hook-ups, but there is good water and electric. the beach is small & clean. the water is clean, cold and plentiful. On up the mountain are beautiful, private cabins. We hiked the West Overlook trail, which looks over the valley and leads to the stone tower built by the CCC in the 30s. Coming down the mountain we crossed the mysterious ancient stone wall, built by unknown peoples. The ranger assured us that the hike was a short stroll, but I wouldn't have called it a stroll by any means. The rocky 0.9mile trail was at a 12-20% grade. It is supposed to take an hour, but as out of shape senior citizens it took us 2 hours with several stops along the way. Still, the view from the top is breathtaking. You know you're high up when the hawks are circling below your perch!

This is an amazingly beautiful place. Please, please take time out of your busy life to make the drive to Fort Mountain. You won't regret it.

We stayed here over the July 4th week. Our campsite was great and the campgrounds were very quiet. We had a spot with a path leading down to the lake. The frogs were loud at night but nothing ear plugs couldn't fix. The campground was well maintained and the bathrooms were pretty clean. Fishing wasn't great but it was nice to have the lake to swim in. The bike trail around the lake was very nice and easy enough for the family. All the other bike trails are for more advanced people in VERY good shape. I do a lot of off road biking in Florida and wasn't able to ride most of the other mountain bike trails here. There are some really good hiking trails and we saw some good wild life.

Visited here recently for the day and enjoyed all of the great hiking. This park is very well kept, no trash, etc. There is a really nice beach and miniature golf for the whole family. Lots of great campsites and not crowded next to each other. Gives everyone lots of privacy.
Take the hike to the tower and the great overlook. It is breathtaking.

Thank dej
