Owner description: This popular park on Lake Allatoona is ideal for swimming, water skiing and fishing. Visitors can bring their own boats or rent from nearby marinas. A sand swimming beach is nestled in a cove and surrounded by trees, providing a great place to cool off during summer. Picnic shelters and group shelters may be rented for meetings, parties, reunions and other celebrations. Guests often stay overnight in rental cottages, a spacious campground or the park’s lakeside yurt. While best known for the 12,000-acre lake, Red Top Mountain is also a hiker’s haven. More than 15 miles of trails wind through the forested park, providing opportunities for exercise and nature photography. A short, paved trail behind the park office is suitable for wheelchairs and strollers, welcoming guests to explore a reconstructed 1860s homestead. The gravel-topped 4-mile Iron Hill Trail is open to both hikers and bikers, offering pretty views of the lake’s shoreline.Named for the soil’s rich red color caused by high iron-ore content, Red Top Mountain was once an important mining area. Iron pour programs are occasionally held near the Vaughn Cabin behind the park office.

Great place to spend some family time and take the boat out... Park Marina also leases boats for 1/2 or all day.... Very good customer service...you can even rent a tube!

This is a great place to take a hike or walk along the trails. The views are great and the atmosphere is awsome. Really quiet place but can be fun for those who want to get a boat and go out on the water from the Marina or several of the boat landings. If you like to canoe this is a fun place if you have your own and they also have some cabins that can be rented. Not that far away from Kennesaw and Marietta makes this a easy and fast get away.

Nice big camping sites with many on the lake. Close to Cartersville and the wonderful Booth Western Art Museum. Definitely need camping reservations for the weekends.

The State of Georgia should be ashamed that they have allowed this park to Go Down. I use to carry my Boy Scout Troop here to camp, but not anymore. They claim to have 24 Hr., security, but on more than one occasion we had DRUNKS come into our campsite in the late evening. I won't go into details, but this is a park to avoid.

I certainly apologize that you had such a negative experience in our campground at Red Top Mountain. Did you ever contact the Ranger on Call, or 911 to report the issue? Our typical response times for calls are less than 10 minutes regardless of time of day, and we're always proud to help out our visiting Scout Troops.

Thanks

Great place to run or bike. I really enjoy coming out here! My mom and I walked one of the trails here and it overlooked the lake. My friend runs here all the time and really enjoys it, too. Just be careful for coyotes.
