La Quinta Inn Calhoun
Ranked #3 of 17 Hotels in Calhoun

This hotel was a perfect location for our trip home from Florida. No major problems, but there were dogs everywhere of all sizes. Dog fight in the hallway at 6:30am was our wake up call. Room was large and could have been very nice, but there were stains all over the carpet. Not sure if it was related to dogs, but we have three small grandchildren that we did not allow on the floor. We have dogs and love dogs and the small one often traveled with us. I would never take some of the huge beasts I saw there into a hotel. If the hotel is going to accept them, they need to clean better. The hallways were the same- large dark stains everywhere. The breakfast room had all the door trim off and the breaker kept tripping, shutting off the waffle maker, etc. I stay almost exclusively at La Quinta hotels, but this one needs some work. Two of the last three I have stayed out were disappointing... may need to revisit my hotel preferences!

We stayed overnight at this location. We checked in later (around 10pm), the front desk person's people skills left something to be desired. The room was clean, the pillows and beds comfortable, and a plus for us that LaQuinta's are pet friendly. After settling down, we began to smell a smoky odor and within seconds our fire alarm sounded. We scurried the 3 children, our pet and ourselves out of the room to the front desk where the same person said "oh everything is ok, just go back in the room and unplug the ac/heat unit and I'll change your room" which she did right next door where we could still smell a minor smoky odor. The issue is no one was called and she instructed us, the customers, to go back in the room and disconnect the unit?? When I spoke to the person on duty the following morning about this, he simply said that sometimes pet hair collects around the electrical outlet and he would have housekeeping pay stricter attention. No mention that apparently the manager or a maintenance person was not called and/or that we, the customer, were instructed to go back into the room to disconnect the unit, nor any mention of even an apology for the incident or having to move our personal belongings.

The breakfast buffet was presented nicely, the items were varied and again another plus particularly when traveling with children.

The rooms could use some updating. The price of accommodation was good.

If you travel with pets LaQuinta is the best place to stay. But, even if you don't it is still an extremely great hotel. The friendliness and helpfulness of the gal that checked us in was wonderful. The breakfast was ready and well supplied.

Very disappointed in this place...not up to LQ's standards and certainly does NOT rate AAA 3-Diamond rating. Carpeting on stairs ripped, worn and FILTHY. Handrail rough with chipped paint. Bathroom vent disgustingly filthy. Ceiling was black around sprinklers(in working order?). Walls dirty & needed repair/painting. Furniture not well dusted at all. All lampshades were creased/dented/ripped/cracked. TV connection & box were front/center of TV & blue operating light of box really lit up room...so bright I had to cover it so I could get to sleep. Bed very uncomfortable.
Breakfast is ridiculous. "Scrambled eggs" were made from a powder mix and TASTELESS. Biscuits like hockey pucks with "gravy" just thick white sauce and also TASTELESS. "Orange" and "apple" juices were so watered down they didn't even taste like flavored water. At least the yogurt wasn't out of date and the banana was fresh. Coffee OK.

Rooms were clean and beds were comfortable but the whole room needed a little upkeep. The toilet didn't sit properly on the floor and rocked. Breakfast was plentiful and varied; however the eggs were cold after just being brought out.

Since we got a good price on the room, we got what we paid for.

Not what I ever expected out of a La Quinta, I've stayed at many others but this one is in much need of attention. It was late and we were tired and there were 4 of us in 2 seperate rooms, both of which the carpets were dirty with stains. The fridge didn't work in one room, the microwave broken in ours, no smoke detector just wires, no bathroom exhaust fan, dirt on the shower curtain. Then for the breakfast there was no pepper because the day before sausage gravy was spilt on it, now one would think to go to the store and by a shaker.

Anyway, I wouldn't recommend this location to anyone until some housekeeping is done as well will inform AAA as I don't feel they should recommend it either.

I can say that one of the guys working there was very helpful, truthfully I think he should be the manager.

Room Tip: Not sure, as I walked down the hall the maids were cleaning and all the carpets looked the same, dir...

Room was very clean and the staff helpful and pleasant. Breakfast was plentiful and varied. Has no problem with my pet stay. There was a pet walking area and an outside bin for pet waste but there were no bags available so be sure and bring some.
