It was a spur of the moment to stop here when driving to Atlanta. We missed the chance of an official tour, because of a shift change. However, we were still able to walk around and see a lot of grounds. The ice cream was tasty and I would suggest getting an ice cream while you are there.

Thank theats

We were driving down to Atlanta on a surprise trip (another story) with our 3 sons -- 10, 13, 15. Was aware of the general location of this Mayfield facility(grew up in Tennessee where Mayfield got their start in Athens). I knew that tours were available there where one can see ice cream being made. Saw a sign about 10 miles prior to the exit for this facility. Spoke quietly with wife (kids were oblivious) about it and we agreed that it would be a fun, spur of the moment stop.

Arrived around 10:30am, Paid for our admissions (around $20 for the 5 of us) which included a large scoop of ice cream. Enjoyed our ice cream before our 11:00am tour, while sitting in rocking chairs on the front porch (very relaxing).

The tour consisted of a short film (about 15 minutes) and a walk through the facility with a very informative guide. We all found it most interesting. (will not drive readers nuts with too many details) But the one surprising tidbit that was most interesting is that there are not any "live" cows located at this facility. Tanker trucks from as far away as Texas and Indiana arrive 24 hours a day delivering raw milk for processing.

Back to the lack of "live" cows, there are some extremely large plastic cows available on the property for photo ops. The gift shop was very nice. Very clean restroom facilities are also available.

This is a very pleasant side trip that all of our family really enjoyed. Highly recommended.
