What a great place. It's like you are sitting on top of the world.
Brand new pavilion and bathrooms is squeaky clean.

This year (2013) they even changed the fees to get in.
Kids free and FREE shuttle to the top included for all of you McDonald's eaters.

This is the highest mountain in the state of Georgia and you either walk to the summit OR ride a shuttle up for a small fee. With a bad knee we rode up to the summit. On a clear day you can see well into N.C and S.C. without a problem. The problem is that over the past few years the haze has seemingly increased to a point that clear days are only few and far between. Best chance for a clear view is in Fall/Winter when the weather is "crisper".

Hadn't been here in 15 years and had forgotten how tough the walk to the top is. If you are out of shape or have health/physical concerns, strongly suggest the shuttle to the top. That being said, if you can hack it, the walk up is a beautiful one through the mountain vegetation. And the mountain top views are spectacular, offering 4 state views on clear days.

We weren't sure what to expect when heading up the mountain. When it was $5 a piece to park we were afraid we had entered a tourist trap but soon realized it was well worth the money! The half mile hike is basically straight up the mountain but so glorious once on top! You can see every direction for miles! The video is very informative as well and we actually had a good time in the visitors center and learned a lot about Georgia history. It is definitely worth the small hike up.

Everything was closed the day we were there - even the road to the top - so we walked up the 3/4 mile path. The view is beautiful from the top but going UP is a little taxing because it's very steep. If you take it slow and easy it's do-able. And coming back down is a breeze. Even though it was warm at the bottom of the mountain, by the time we got to the top I was very glad I had brought a sweater. Pack a light lunch and enjoy the view. The fee is on the honor system, but the day we visited there was no way to leave money.
