If it is homegrown or handmade you may just find it at this fun market. We were in the area on a Saturday and asked around to find the market. Turn right beside Home Depot in Blairsville on 148 Old Smokey Road(look for banner) and drive less than a half mile. The farmers market was much larger than I thought it would be. I think it is less than 5 years old. The facilities are great. There were over 50 vendors, everything from corn picked that day to peaches, peas, herbs, flowers and much more. Crafters had handmade jewelry, jellies, woodworking, pottery, clothing, etc.
The Saturday we visited Extension Master Gardeners were slicing watermelon and making home grown tomato sandwiches on home made bread. And it was FREE. And they were delicious.
Their is a joyful energy at the market. People are having fun visiting and buying. You have a chance to actually talk to the person who planted and harvested the produce you are buying. Bluegrass music piped in through the PA system will have your toes tapping.
Visit this market and support your local farmers and crafts people. The market is held on Tuesdays 4-8 pm and Saturdays 7 am-1 pm. the market is open May-Oct. 22. On Fridays they hold Trash and Treasure sales. Check out the website www.ucfarmersmarket.com for some great info including what is probably going to be selling at the market and a list of upcoming events. There is also a link for recipes, articles and even meet and mingle. Mickey Cummings, market manager and County Extension Ag Agent is doing great job with the market.
