My wife and I being from Orlando like to explore nearby. We decided to go to the Polasek Museum which we have driven by for many years. This is an amazing museum and sculpture garden added to the wonderful views. Polasek held some of the most famous Orthodox wooden art salvaged and restored. He dedicated his life to art and culture which can clearly be seen throughout the studio and grounds. While its not Disney its a great rest from the hurry up culture of theme parks and a short drive located across from Rollins college in beautiful Winter Park, Fl a place to see by itself. 8 dollars for 2 seniors.

This wonderful small museum is an oasis! Polasek's home is simple but filled with his remarkable work. His personal story is inspiring, the gardens lovely and the staff warm and welcoming.

Wonderful museum and gardens. What a very talented individual, able to work in multiple mediums. I was not familiar with this artist prior to my visit. That gardens were in their winter state when I visited, but still very peace and lovely.

We had never heard of Albin Polasek until visiting Winter Park--we learned alot touring his home, studio, chapel and garden. He was a Czech who came to the US in 1901 abd eventually studied at the PA Academy of Fine Arts, a well know art school in Philadelphia. For 30 years he was head of the sculpture department of the Art Institute of Chicago and retired to Florida in 1949. He built a house in Winter Park on Lake Osceola in 1950 and living there until he died in 1965--his wife continued to lived there after his death.

You can visit and tour his house and studio which are filled with his sculptures and art work, his private chapel and the lovely gardens by the lake. We had an informative tour with Elaine, one of the guides and you can watch a video of his life before the tour. There are some classic pieces in the house and garden. Presemty there is a special exhibit of Russsian Icons. Admission is $5 for adults, $4 for seniors. They are part of the American Horticulture Society reciprocal program and membership in one of those gardens allows for free admission.. This is a lovely place in a beautiful setting--a worthwhile place to visit.
