“Nice atmosphere, interesting concept”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 10, 2013

Had reservations, but still had to wait almost 30 minutes. That was fine as the bartenders explained the micro brewery beers they have on tap, which were good. Menu is very innovative and interesting, a combination of southern with a bit of flare--like honey on fried chicken or whole fried okra. Our food was very good. The appetizers were advertised as serving 2-4 people, but the portion size was more like 1+. My wife had the venison. She thought it was poor quality or not cooked well, one or the other, but was tough with a lot of gristle. The "pickled" mushrooms on the side were a bit too much vinegar. We did enjoy the atmosphere and the service was excellent. I didn't think the prices were that expensive as others have commented.

“This is NOT Southern Food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

Long anticipated trip to Cask and Larder was a super disappointment. I am a southern cook with a foodie bend, but this - a sad parody of Southern at best. Trying to find a dish that did not have offal or something pickled on it was hard, my first appetizer selection was "oops someone else just got the last one". OK. For a main I went with venison. The first bite was heaven - the second with some of what was piled high atop contained a pickled vegetable and some slightly tainted tasting chewy stuff. YUK. Scraping off everything I found some very cold polenta smeared in a thin swoosh across the bottom of the cold plate, it was only enough to mess up the juices. Three bites of great venison lead to the end which was viscera and unedible. My guest chose pork ribs, and liked all 6 bites after scraping off fried hazelnuts and some bitter greens. Can you mess up mac and cheese? Apparently so, make it watery, put unrecognizable crunchy stuff on it, and use the kind of cheese that gets all grainy when it's heated. So we had about 9 great bites at $10 each. The atmosphere, pure cafeteria with hard surfaces, loud noise, and honestly, someone on the music system screaming like Rod Steward just loud enough that every once in awhile you heard a scream through the speakers (bad system too). Last note, when you have to ask two servers for salt and pepper and you see everyone else has breadsticks but all you get is a bread plate - probably not so good on the service side, our server was pleasant, but not discoverable.

“Not impressed!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 3, 2013

We decided to visit Cask & Larder one night a couple weeks ago while visiting family in Orlando, and I hate to say it, but we will not be returning. The late night menu was very limited and outrageously expensive. We ordered the collard bread with pimiento cheese dip because it was the cheapest thing on the menu (at $10), and it was alright. My brother and sister in law ordered the ham and biscuit sampler, and we were shocked by the tiny portion for $18. It came with three microscopic biscuits and three tiny piles of different ham. It was ridiculous. The on-site brewery is pretty cool, but their beer wasn't very impressive. Pretentious and overpriced...no thanks!

“Cask & larder: An experience to be avoided!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2013

The dining experience is equal parts food, ambience and service. All three need to work in harmony to create something worth your time, taste buds and wallet. Sadly, the Cask & Larder falls so terribly short in the service category that it completely overshadows any chance of being someplace enjoyable.

Upon entering C&L, my wife and I encountered the rudest hostess we have ever had the displeasure to meet. Her attitude, tone and complete lack of respect were nothing short of terrible. As a well-dressed diner with a reservation, I have never felt so insulted by a food service “professional” in all of my life. No attempt was made to be accommodating or even civil by that employee and she came across as a malicious person to takes pleasure in being the “bad guy.” Our experience was not the exception either. We were warned in advance by two groups of friends who had similar experiences since C&L opened but keeping an open mind, we decided to see for ourselves. To be completely fair the owner, food-runners, and our server were fine in every respect but all it takes is one bad apple to spoil the bunch. Unfortunately that poor employee set the tone for dinner with no chance of the food or ambience redeeming the experience.

Cask & Larder falls short of being a worthwhile dining experience for the poor service alone. There are better options in Orlando, and as a fan of The Ravenous Pig, we feel are money is better spent elsewhere.

“Should have heeded others warning”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2012

I was warned by friends that the hostess was the rudest person they had ever come across, but my love of their sister restaurant (Ravenous Pig) brought me here. Their hostess was in a league of her own when it came to rudeness. Judging from the empty restaurant I can only say she is to blame as she told those without a reservation to sit at the bar while tables sat empty the entire time we were there. Our server was nice and friendly and had good recommendations so no complaints there. The portions are small for the price and the food was disappointing compared to their sister restaurant. The beer selection was nice with some home brewed options but nothing extraordinary . Unfortunately though (and mainly because of their hostess) we will not be going back to Cask and Larder.
