Local favorite with good seafood. Onion loaf is great with attentive service. Try the grouper in a bag for great blend of flavors.

“#1 rated in Winter Haven for a reason... worth the drive, find it!”
Reviewed January 27, 2012

We rarely eat at bad restaurants thanks to tripadvisor, maybe that's why my reviews are overwhelmingly favorable! As usual, we used TA to scout out a good seafood place nearby, and went to Harry's based soley on reviews, Are we glad we did. Great food, excellent service, friendly, laid back atmosphere. Harry came around to out table and talked to us - super guy, runs a 1st class operation. Server Jen was professional, attentive, funny, and sweet (very pretty too!). They explained each and every morsel of food is made fresh on the premises, and the reason they are open for lunch for limited hours (open 1130am, last seating at 130pm) is because they use the afternoon to prep the food for the dinner menu. All the dishes are cooked fresh to order, even the salad dressings are homemade.

For starters we had the onion loaf (pictured) which despite being fried was great, very crisp and not greasy. It's served with a ranch / horseradish sauce mixture that was downright outstanding. Also tried the french onion soup - the best we've had in years. Done the right way, with melty cheese crusting on top the bowl and a nice rich broth, it was very good.

The main dish we wanted wasn't on the menu for lunch, but thanks to Jen and Harry they made it for us anyway - talk about great service. We wanted the famous grouper special - broiled grouper topped with shrimp, scallops, crab, and garlic butter. It was incredible...
The fish was so light and flaky, scallops were tender but had good texture, and while I am not a crab eater - I must say the crab meat was the best part of the dish - so light and flavorful. It came with a salad and one side, we choose red potatoes, very good. The price on the grouper special (called that even though it's available all the time) was currently 19.95, but believe me - it was an EXCELLENT meal, so good it'll be hard to try new ones.

Website has full menus for lunch and dinner. Lots of great stuff to try next time we go!

“Great Old Florida Atmosphere and Fantastic Food”
Reviewed December 31, 2011

My husband and I eat here regularly. It is one of the last non-chain restaurants, and the food is far superior to the chains, especially the seafood chains. The atmosphere is old Florida fishing, with various fishing-related decor on the walls. The tables and chairs are fairly downscale. The menu is extensive, and the write the day's specials on chalkboards mounted around the restaurant. In the back dining room, you can eat overlooking one of the many lakes in Polk County, a perfect setting for seafood.

I like to try new things everytime we go, and honestly, I have never had anything that isn't good. Their recommended items are all good. I think my favorite (and I can't remember the name) was swordfish with a parmesan some-kind-of-cheese topping. It was so delicious! The service is always friendly and fast.

The drawback to this awesome restaurant, of course, is its popularity, but small dining rooms and small parking lot. Don't be surprised if the wait is 30 minutes or more. One option is to wait out the time at the bar, but the bar area is also small and unfortunately only serves beer and wine. And, of course, they don't take reservations.

However, even with these minor inconveniences, this is definitely a place to eat. It is absolutely worth the wait.

“Food is great and staff was hilarious”
Reviewed December 29, 2011

This place is frequented by....an older early bird crowd that knows how to find a value. We went during the summer when most of the clientel is back north and it was still busy! The food was surprisingly good for a little hole in the wall out of the way place in Winter Haven. It is definitely a hidden treasure! Get there early or be prepared to wait for a while to get a table. Well worth the trip!!!!
