The Cabanas Guesthouse & Spa
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed February 6, 2012

I spent two days there this last trip and was not disappointed (again).
They made a mistake in my reservation but the ownercaught is a day later (amazingly) and was very proactive in saving my trip.

He even contacted another guest house as a back up.

This was my 3rd stay at Cabanas. My partner LOVES it for the inexpensive rates and the kitchen facilities. He loves vacations where he save money cooking gourmet meals WITHOUT having to do dishes.

The pool and hot tub are great/ relaxing and social. Men who come here don't have attitude and there really are some handsome men!

It's a 3 star feeling and sexy not sleazy.
I also like the 15 min walk to the gay strip with Bill's Filling Station, Georgies Alibi and Gaymart.
-But to be honest, when we go to Cabanas we stay there 99% of the time.

Room Tip: Great for singles or couple. Slightly cruisy as all clothing optional resorts are, but not obnoxious

I have been staying at this guesthouse since 2006 and have had consistently great experiences. The owner and staff make you feel welcome, as though you are their personal guests. The property is continually being updated and improved - the owner & staff pride is evident everywhere. You will not find a nicer, more friendly place to stay anywhere! Just returned and am already looking forward to two more visits I have scheduled this year.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are nice - select based on your needs (suite, 2 beds, proximity to pool, etc.).

Incredible Owner and staff, all happy, cheerful and GLAD you are there. The rooms are fantastic as the pool, hot tub and the spa staff are as well. I swear I was in the best room they had, but they tell me there's even better - but my large room (with full kitchen, huge king bed and almost a full wall of windows), had my own patio which sat on the canal and I thought it was heaven - this is where I actually spent most of my days just relaxing. The website is what drew me in - and it was just as the website described - (the website is easy to use too).

I visited the spa the first day and found the staff helpful, welcoming and very knowledgeable - this is a place to visit on site as part of your trip.

Wilton Manors is about a $6 cab ride away, or you can walk or check out the free bikes and go out on your own to some of the restaurants and shops close by.

Either way, you'll enjoy the say immensely - unless you're stupid :)

Room Tip: If you like to relax, choose one of the rooms on the canal.

Really great staff greet you on arrival and take you on a tour of the property. Beautiful landscaping provides a lot of privacy. Rooms are a nice size, beds and linens are very comfortable, most importantly they are clean and nicely appointed. Great location, too. My partner and I are looking forward to a return visit.

Spent three days here in December with my partner as a first time guest and Florida local. The place is all that it advertises. The rooms are the cleanest you will find and come with many extra features to ensure your comfort. The breakfast room was still under renovation so I can't speak about that but there was enough to satisfy most breakfast requirements. If you insist on hot breakfast and service there is a great diner one block away. (after that place you will skip lunch). Interesting nearby shops if you like to browse. The heated salt water pool was very relaxing and the hot tub and steam room excellent. We would definitely return to this place and reluctantly left very satisfied.

My partner (of 10 years) and I have been coming to the Cabanas for several years and have no plans to alter course. Our most recent trip was for a week over the New Year holiday, and we had another fantastic experience.
First let’s talk about the staff… Every one of the staff members are true guest service professionals – from the management, to the front office staff, the spa team and the housekeeping crew – service is their top priority.
Upon arrival we were greeted in the parking lot by the owner to personally thank us for coming back and to give us a tour of our completely remodeled suite. John extended a very warm welcome to us allowing us to get settled before dealing with the more mundane tasks of check-in.
While we were unpacking, the housekeeping crew came over to greet us and to offer assistance in moving our luggage to the room, checking to see if we needed anything additional. As shifts changed and front office staff rotated through, each came out to welcome us back and to ensure we had everything that we needed. It was obvious that this wasn’t done for show, but because of a true concern for the comfort and needs of the guests. It also didn’t end on the first day, as we were asked daily if everything was to our liking and if we needed anything.
What really could you need at such a beautiful resort?
The resort is gated on the street side with unobstructed views of the beautiful Middle River and intercostal waterway on the opposite side of the property. There is ample off street parking near each of the cabanas making it very easy to bring in luggage and groceries (yes, when you have a nice kitchen why not buy some groceries) to your room.
The rooms have all recently been completely remodeled. We stayed in the one-bedroom suite which is one of the last rooms to have been redone, and it was well worth the wait. It was like having our own personal Florida vacation home right on the water! The suite has a semi-private patio that is just a few feet away from the beautiful Middle River, but is discreet and private thanks to the luscious landscaping, which is plentiful through the entire property.
Even from the living room of the suite you can enjoy the views of the landscaping and intercostal.
The suite also has a dining room, full kitchen, large bedroom with king size bed, washer and dryer, and rather large bathroom. The bedroom has a window that also looks out over the water, and is tucked back in the corner of the building for very restful and uninterrupted sleep.
The full kitchen has everything you would need to make this your temporary home while you’re away. We even hosted wine and hors d’ oeuvres one evening on our patio before heading to dinner and the bars with some new friends we had met at the Cabanas. The staff even brought over additional seating to make sure our guests were comfortable.
The facilities at the Cabanas are very clean and it is obvious that the property is cared for meticulously.
There are two pools, the largest being a salt-water pool in the front of the property, centrally located for use by all of the cabanas. The pool is heated and was a very comfortable 87 degrees in December/January – refreshing during the day and warm enough to swim at night. The pool also has a beautiful water feature and changing light display that adds to the beauty of the surroundings especially at night. There are plenty of chairs, and the area is always kept clean. Some have complained on the website of street noise since the property is located along NE 26th street. Yes, there can be some minor road noise if an emergency vehicle comes by with sirens and lights blaring, but normally the road noise isn’t even noticeable. There is always music playing around the pool and the water feature and conversation quickly eliminate any sounds from the street.
A second pool is located in the rear of the property and is kept unheated (I believe). This is especially nice if you need a quick refreshing dip, or on days when the sun is very hot. We have visited in the summer and have found this pool to be a nice refreshing way to cool off when lying out.
The 10 person hot tub is a great place to relax especially on a chilly night. The hot tub has a double water-fall and light feature which also can be romantic under the clear star lit nights in South Florida.
The large steam room is another great place to slip into if you’re feeling a bit chilly or need to open up your lungs. The steam room takes a bit of time to get started if you’re the first one there in the morning, but once it’s up and running you’ll be trying to find the off button. Nice hot steam! very relaxing, especially before or after a massage at the spa.
The location of the Cabanas makes this place the perfect place to stay if you want to relax during the day, and play at night. Wilton Manors bars and restaurants are located within minutes of the property. A community shuttle will pick you up and take you to any of the local Wilton Manors bars or restaurants for only the price of a gratuity. It’s fun to sit around the pool all morning then hop on the Green Hopper to Rosie’s for lunch and a few cocktails with friends, without having to worry about drinking and driving. Same thing at night for dinner. The wait for the shuttle was only 2-3 minutes each time!
Of course, you could also borrow a bike from the Cabanas with helmet and bike to one of the locations or even the beach. Sebastian Beach is only about a 10-15 minute drive by car should you want to head to the sand and sun. Besides the bikes – the Cabanas also has several kayaks available with life vest and head gear for exploring the Intercostal and Middle River.
There is a kitchen centrally located that offers a continental breakfast in the morning. Several people have commented in their reviews that they want a more substantial breakfast. Having stayed at several guesthouses in the area, I can tell you that it is ILLEGAL for these guest houses to serve anything but pre-packaged items unless they have been licensed and inspected for food service. I’d prefer that someone not try to feed me food they prepared from an uninspected kitchen serving multiple guests. There are several breakfast options within walking distance from the Cabanas. Egg N You is a favorite of ours and it’s just out the front door ½ block. They have been in business over 25 years and even remember us when we visit.
When it comes to price – could you spend less money somewhere else? Yes, of course, and we have. You can also spend much more money, and we have done that also. We find the pricing at the Cabanas to be very competitive to other guest houses in the area, based on the amenities offered, the location, and the incredible service. You could go to “the Point” and spend a fortune more and end up very disappointed with the small rooms, lack of amenities – oh but you do get that nice orchid on your towel at the pool. No thanks. You could also spend less at several of the other beach area properties and have none of the privacy (look up and wave at all of the straight hotel guests gawking at your from their balconies), nor the comfort, multiple pools, hot tub, spa, or steam room.
If you’re a gay man – couple or single – this is the place you want to stay. With 18 rooms, you can have as much privacy or as much interaction with the other guests as you choose. You will find guests from all over the world, with different tastes, preferences, shapes, sizes, ages - you name it! Everyone is made to feel welcome and the no-attitude feeling extends from the staff to the other guests and provides a comfortable environment for everyone to be themselves.
If you’re ever in the area for the New Year holiday – look for us because we will be there!

Room Tip: For a more private experience - ask for a room on the water. For easy and quick access to the pool...

Finally an all male clothing optional hotel in Wilton Manors Florida. This gem is smack in the middle of all the action Wilton Manors has to offer and they even have a free shuttle taking you to and from all the hot spots, clubs and restaurants. This hotel has a wonderful handsome owner who is hands on and actually cares about each and every guest. The rooms are spotless with all the amenities you need. They have 2 pools a great hot tub, lush landscaping with plenty to areas for sunbathing and a steam room which is just perfect to relax and sooth your tired body (or just a cozy spot to meet a new friend) The cabanas even has an all male day spa that is awesome. I had 2 body treatments which were by far the best I have ever had (and I am a spa traveler) Norman the spa pro know's everything about men's skin care and has perfected it. The daily continental breakfast was the perfect start to the day and the clothing optional setting at the Cabanas is just exhilarating . I can't wait to return.
