“Fabulous Food, Eye Candy Servers, Slow Service”
Reviewed January 20, 2012

My partner and I go to Galanga's every December when we vacation in Fort Lauderdale/Pompano Beach. My partner goes to Galanga's alone when he is in Florida on other visits. We have always enjoyed our dining experiences there.

When we were planning our December trip, we heard from a third party that Galanga was sold to another owner and we thought the restaurant had closed. I was glad to find out otherwise. We made our reservation and looked forward to our upcoming dining visit.

The menu was the same as before, the servers were as gorgeous as ever, but the service was slow. Either the kitchen was inefficient, or the wait staff didn't care about us because there were a few larger parties who were celebrating birthdays and drinking.

Either way, we would still recommend this restaurant and will still return for a future visit.

“Each bite was better than the next.”
Reviewed December 21, 2011

Every year for the holidays we pick a different Thai restaurant. Needless to say we have eaten at quite a few. Last night we ate at Galanga. The restaurant is easy to find, easy to park, decorated tastefully and has patio seating available. We ate inside where we sat facing a pristine fish tank that served as the back drop for the sushi chef preparing the food. Right away it set the mood for a great evening. The hostess is also the owner and she greeted us like old friends. We drank hot sake and the wine list had something for everyone. As a toast we drank a sake bomb and the waiter, who was wonderful, showed the newbies how to do it right. Every dish was so amazing that we all ended up eating off of each others plates. The Pad that was ordered spicy and had just enough kick. The "It's all good" shrimp and scallops were melt in your mouth delicious. The Dragon roll had an impressive presentation and tasted unbelievable. I can't say enough good things. The menu has your usual thai and sushi favorites as well as unique options. Everything looked so appealing I am sure we will be back and taste something different every time. Can't wait to go back!

“Galanga could be BACK!”
Reviewed December 9, 2011

For the longest time Galanga ranked as one of the best, and clearly most popular, Thai/Sushi restaurants in the greater Ft. Lauderdale region. But about 2 years ago, Galanga mysteriously totally lost it: new, quite attractive, but TOTALLY untrained front-door staff and servers appeared, the kitchen just couldn't seem to execute anymore (the food became "mushy" and totally unpredictable), and Galanga's loyal and vast following disappeared almost overnight. With that background, it was with great trepidation that I accepted friends' invitation to join them for dinner at the "new" Galanga on a recent Friday night. But it was, somewhat surprisingly, a wonderful evening! The appetizers were more than acceptable (a little work still needed here!), and the wait staff was cordial, welcoming and professional. A tuna main course was properly rare and quite nicely done, and the duck with a chile sauce was crispy while medium rare at the center - really excellent! Hope they can keep it up!

“I wished it to be better...”
Reviewed November 25, 2011

We went for dinner before the symphony. We had a coupon and hoped that we woudl be able to eat and run since we were going to get to the show. We told our waiter that we were in rather a hurry and since it was early (6.00 pm.) and there were barely any bodies in the restaurant, we were sure to be able to make it in plenty of time. I have something against restaurantd where you can hardly read your menu, let alone see your food. And Galanga, in spite of all the positive things I had heard about it, disappointed in the service, but not the food. I admit to have had better Thai food in and around Fort Lauderdale, but it was the lack of effort on the part of our server that made me decide this was not an establishment I wanted to come back to in the near future.

“Still my favorite Thai food restaurant in Ft. Lauderdale”
Reviewed November 10, 2011

For many years now Galanga has provided consistent excellent and imaginative Thai and Japanese specialties. Portions are large (too large for me). Coming back year after year and not being disappointed says it all.
