“Half Moon Bay”
Reviewed December 2, 2010

Half Moon Bay is difficult to reach, if don't have your own transportation. There is a bus once a day close to it, but it takes very long to get there from St. John's.
Anyway, if you look for peace and quitness this is your place. Few people make the trip out here. The beach is extraordanary beautiful. But I have to admit that all corals are detroyed. I check the bay until the end. Meter high very old corals are covering on the ground. Therefore no fishes or any other waterlife. The bay is dead.

“Wowee! Definitely worth a visit if you have rented a car”
Reviewed November 27, 2010

We drove to Half Moon Bay in our rental car (quite a feat given the lack of road signs and mistakes on the 'official tourist road map'!). The beach has two parts - a bit that's good for surfing with crashing waves, and if you walk round to the left, there is a much more sheltered spot ideal for swimming. We've just got back from a week in Antigua (late Nov 2010) and most of the seas around the island were quite 'milky turquoise' due to the hurricane season whisking up the sands. The water at half moon bay, however, was crystal clear and allowed us to see lots of silver and black-tipped angel fish-like fishes (no idea what species they were) whilst paddling. When we went, there were perhaps 6 other people in the bay, and we had grilled chicken at Smilin' Harry's which is on the path down to the beach - excellent.

“Amazing Beach”
Reviewed December 5, 2009

Beautiful views and scenery. If you go before sunset the waves crash against the rocks to the left end of the beach and it makes for some great pictures. Most people are gone by that time of day as well so we had the entire beach to ourselves.

“paradise, never forgotton”
Reviewed October 20, 2009

We got married by the beach here in August 1995 and spent a blissful 3 weeks. A month later the resort was damaged by a hurricane and has never been repaired. A great shame that either it cannot be rebuilt or removed as I doubt there can be a setting to rival it! It is totally stunning and if in Antigua it's a must for a visit - but I do remember it being a long drive!

“Definitely the most exciting, non-developed beach I've been to.”
Reviewed October 8, 2009

Half Moon Bay is as described--a huge half moon of a beach with huge waves at one end and quiet waters at the other. The waves never stopped, but were always just right for riding. A walk along the entire length of the beach is a must. Even though one end is rocky and the water so rough you will get splashed, you must see the colors of the rock and the vistas of the beach as it extends along the island. This is a totally undeveloped beach area, so bring everything you want with you, especially suncreen and water. There is good shade from trees around the edges of the beach. Don't come here if you are looking to be entertained--this is nature at its best and delightfully uncrowded. Plan to spend the whole day and take lots of pictures!
