“My vacation at Vacation Village in Weston could have been worse but a few simple changes by the resort could have made”
Reviewed July 24, 2010

My husband and our two 13 year olds just returned from Vacation Village at Weston. From the very start we were frustrated. We had a very hard time finding the check in building even with an address and a GPS. The resort is spread out with several sections and no one on staff at any of the buildings was able to give us correct directions. We found it by luck and a lot of driving.

We were placed in the Osprey building. It was close to the main waterfall pool and check in building. It was beautifully landscaped and maintained. We were checked into a B unit. It was perfectly clean and well maintained, The unit needed to be updated. The counter tops were old formica, the cabinets were quite dated and the tv's were very old and there was no DVD player in the bedroom. However since the unit was so clean I could have easily overlooked this. The unit was small and cramped. It had no stove or refrigerator and we had no way to prepare food except the microwave. We called the front desk repeatedly and asked to be upgraded to an A unit which had a full kitchen and much more room.

I really wanted to rate the resort 5 stars because it had many nice features but in good conscience to other travelers I can only manage 3 stars. All resorts are cost conscious and they charge for their services. This resort managed to charge for breathing.

The resort does not have washers and dryers in the units. They provide towel exchange service. Each floor has two washers and two dryers. It is very difficult to get a turn at the very busy washers and to top it off, unlike other resorts I have stayed in, they charge to use the machines.

The 8 beautiful empty tennis courts were yours to use at a rate of $5.00 per person per hour. I have never been to a resort that charged for tennis courts.

They required a deposit of $25.00 to use their old, worn out basketball.

By far the most irritating thing they did was their wifi policy. The resort provided wifi but charged you $50.00 per week to use wifi or you could pay by the day or hour. Down the street Howard Johnson's which is a $35.00 a night establishment offers free wifi. To make up for this failing they had a computer room with 8 computers that you could use for up to 15 minutes before they automatically shut down. There was always a line out the door with frustrated people who just wanted to check their email.

The resort was also in the middle of nowhere and difficult to get to attractions.

These shortcomings made it difficult to see the many good points of the resort. It was very clean and the staff was helpful and very courteous.

This place was easy to find, right off 595. The rooms were clean and well decorated. There were plenty of free amenities to enjoy, pool, fitness center, shuttle around the resort, shopping, computers with a printer, cleaning service mid-week, parking, coupons for local attractions and restaurants, and probably more. 20 min from the airport and about 30 from the beach. I have stayed at about 10 time share resorts over the years and this is one of the nicest.

After reading some of the other review, I was a little concerned .... Nothing to worry! Ward of the Time Share vultures by telling them that you are already an owner. That auttomatically "disqualifies" one from being invited in the tour. However when they try to entice you to come and view their model by offering incentives like a pre-paid visa card and dinner or a tour, just decline and THEY WILL LEAVE YOU ALONE! We were there the 4th July week, and there were ALWAYS enough pool chairs. The drive to Fort Lauderdale in traffic is a bear, and can take 45min, but worth it. The noise from the traffic on the highway could barely be heard even when trying. There is an awesome park and fishing and various other activities on the other side of the Interstate off Bonaventure Blvd.

My only warning.... Avoid The Timeshare Presentation Entirely!!! The initial sales team is nice and informative, but they shift into a slightly aggressive mode towards the end. Then you have to go through another sales pitch from a separate, but extremely aggressive (slightly disrespectful) sales person before you can get your gift. We were made to feel as if we were low class just because we were not ready to buy from them that day. We had an awful experience. We reported our experience with the final salesperson to the management onsite and he stated that others had complained about her recently. Hopefully, no one will be treated that way again.

Aside from this experience, this was a near perfect vacation. We had one minor issue with our room, but guest services took care of it immediately without a lot of questioning. They were awesome.

Weston is the ideal location for anyone who wants a variety of activities to do in the S. Florida area. My wife and I stayed there for a week and we were able to visit Fort Lauderdale and Miami with just a 20 to 25 minute drive. We also traveled to Key Largo and and Key West which only took 2-3 hours.

The City of Weston has everything that you'd want with the exception of a major amusement park. There's plenty of other activities instead. Major shopping malls, various restaurants, siteseeing tours, beaches with watersports, horseback riding, spas, etc. We'll visit again for sure and bypass any sort of timeshare promo.

This is a timeshare that we have owned for over 10 years. We love the property and the location. The irony is that the only downside to our trip was caused by the pestering sales staff. We received a phone call stating that they wanted to review a few changes with us and that the meeting would include a lunch and $75.00. We asked several times how long this meeting would take and were promised that it would only take under two hours. FOUR hours later we had to finally stand up and demand our money and left very irritated. At the beginning of the meeting our rep was very endearing and knew how to strike up a very personal conversation to make us feel all warm and fuzzy. After we were shown an upgraded apartment at another part of the resort and fed a lunch at the country club we were then asked to drive back to the welcome center. This is were the fun begins. They bring you into a crowded room with tables and turn up the music so high so that you can't hear the "comments' from the next table. We asked to be taken to another room because we couldn't hear anything. We made it clear that we had no interest in upgrading or switching over to the points. We simply don't have it in our budget and are satisfied with what we have. I am going to compare this meeting to buying a car. It was torture! The rep attempted numerous ways to present this package but it was only making us more angry. We were told that our meeting was about done but that "due to policy" the supervisor had to go over some documents with us. The manager magically reduced the fee to switch to the point system by over a $1000. but we still wouldn't budge. She tried to convince us for another 30 minutes until we were finally released to yet another torture chamber. Apparently this room belonged to the "corporate staff" who had to review yet another document with us. By this time I was furious and told him that we were promised that this meeting would only take a few hours. His response...."You should know that no one is going to promise you a free lunch and a gift and just let you go." And you know what ...as pathetic as his response was....it is true! So...just say NO and enjoy your vacation. I truly believe that an owner who has paid their maintenance dues over 10 years should be upgraded and given the option to change over to points. We shouldn't be pestered and asked to pay even more money. Unfortunately one of our family members now wants to sell because they are so upset at the sales staff.

We stayed here twice. Once in March and once in May. the We stayed in ,Flamingo in March and it was ok. We had a studio which was ample for two people for a week .. We booked last minute because we were on Miami beach for a family function and decided to stay a while. We booked through RCI using Wyndam points from Newport RI and were annoyed by the timeshare reps.

In May we used a banked Royal Resort (Cancun) week through Interval International and had a one bedroom in Heron 1 which was a much nicer pool and building. The timeshare people ignored us we never heard from them the whole week. On both trips the staff was very helpful and gracious.

It is one of the very few resorts we have stayed at in the past couple of years that does not have wi fi access in the units unless you pay a hefty fee. We are retired so every few days we went to Mizner Place to the free computer room .

The entire resort needs a "coat of paint" and some new sheets , The location is terific. Great restaraunts of all prices and cusines are close buy. All in all I would give it a B-

First off, I'm in the military and booked through the Armed Forces Vacation Club (AFVC). I had a conference in Ft Lauderdale (FL), but chose to stay in Weston. The commute to FL is about 20-25 mintues with normal traffic. So distance isn't much of an issue.

As stated with previous reviews, rooms are divided into A and B sides; with A having more amenities and larger rooms. We stayed in the Osprey bldg, B room. The room was clean, and a decent size for two people. Yes, the furniture, TV, etc was outdated, but I had no major issues with the room or front desk service. However BEWARE the time share piranhas!.

Other reviews have stated just saying "NO" once to the piranhas should produce a cease and desist effect. Well, I think this depends on who your dealing with; we said "NO" from the get go, but still received 5 phone calls a day saying we need to attend their "free" breakfast or lunch. We kept saying "NO". I know you could just unplug your phone, but you shouldn't have to go through these extremes when you staying in a hotel or any type of lodging. Another option might have been to complain to the front desk. But again, you shouldn't have go through this extreme, and it's not like they don't know what's going on...........when you check in, the front desk DIRECTS you towards the piranhas. And don't think after you finish checking in, and get your room, you'll never physically bump into the TS piranhas. They are downstairs in your bldg, waiting for you to enter or leave and bother you with the same tired script.

So to summarize; the lodging is decent, but BEWARE the TS piranhas. You could just roll the dice, and hope your TS representative is a goldfish, and not a piranha.
