“Art, art, art”

Palm Beach County Convention Center
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed March 11, 2013

Every January through early March, this convention center holds four (count 'em four!) shows of art. The first is Ifae - which features modern art. The next two are devoted to fine antiques and jewelry. The last is a craft show of fine crafters which features wearable art, jewelry, and home goods that are hand made. There is parking for a small price and one can walk around for hours. Some of the shows have lectures by experts or artists themselves and food is also provided for those of us who need a short break. I go every year because the shows just get better and better.

The Convention Center suffers because there is no hotel within walking distance. The best venues are in February with the Fine Art Shows. The rest of the year it is basically empty but should rebound when and the city agrees to build a hotel.

This is a mid-sized, modern (2004), multi-use convention center which can be utilized as a ballroom, exhibit hall, or meeting space(s). I always have found it to be well maintained and comfortable with easy access and parking. Its best feature is the central location. One can walk to a variety of restaurants, shops, theaters, and, at least one, major hotel. The broader downtown area is accessible via a nearby “trolley-bus.” Finally, one can reach the airport, the train station, an interstate highway, the beach, and several other major hotels within about three miles by car.

Depending on your interest in the specific events which take place in this venue, your expectations are generally not geared towards the dining opportunities. Limited menu, unimpressive quality and service can be disappointing - but good for a quick cup of coffee. The shows and exhibits have always been the main draw and they are top quality events.

It is a one ring, two elephant, two camel, etc performance. We paid $32 for seats that were on the side and BEHIND the ring. Not sure who wrote the other circus review but they certainly paint a different picture than the performance we saw. We had asked for the "$15" seats, but there were none, $32 being the least expensive. If ours was $32, then $15 must have been in the back parking lot.
