“Ideal for tennis fanatics”
Reviewed May 16, 2010

Superior tennis program -- five hours per day with top pros. No more than four players to a court. But not for the casual player -- five hours in 90-degree heat requires stamina and drills are technical and demanding. A great value at $155 per day -- hardly more than a court and pro for one hour in New York City. Great deal of individual attention along with very useful video analysis.

While the resort claims "luxury" billing, it is really middle of the road -- comfortable but not luxurious in the sense of a Four Seasons or Ritz. Rooms are basic but reasonably priced and if you are there primarily to play tennis or golf, it is really a good value. Very nice pool and beautiful natural setting filled with wildlife. The Spa is pretty basic but nice enough.

There is a limited restaurant selection on site and food is expensive and of middling quality. Even if you rent a car, there isn't much in the area except strip malls. But staff are consistently friendly and helpful if not always professionally trained (chatting with a favorite barfly while you're waiting for service).

Bottom line: I would recommend this for tennis and possibly golf (I am not a golfer) but not for a family where these sports are incidental to the resort experience. Kids who are not enrolled in the tennis or golf programs would be bored.

We have just returned from a week long stay at this resort. I was a little apprehensive about staying here after reading the reviews but the reviews were way off target. My family and I attended a wedding at this resort and stayed in a one bedroom suite. The suite was fairly large and extremely clean. It had a complete kitchen which came in handy for a quick breakfast. The maid service was exceptional and were on top off the room as soon as you left it. The pool was huge and extremely clean. The kid's club was not worth the money. Your basically paying for a babysitter. There's not many kids at this club, well my kid's were the only kids at this club so it wasn't much fun for them. There is a great steak house and sports bar on site. The only thing I would recommend for this resort would be an on site store of some kind. There is no where on site to purchase items for your room. You have to get valet service to retrieve your vehicle every time you need to make a store run. The stores are close by and this isn't that much of an issue. The golf courses are beautiful but extremely difficult. The wedding was very nice and the food was very good. This is a very relaxing resort and not very expensive.

Just got back from Saddlebrook resort for a 2 day adult tennis camp. My overall impression is similar to other reviewers. The property is about 30 miles north of Tampa and it is isolated. So a car is recommended if you don't want to get stuck. The property reminds me of 70's style southern California apartment buildings with lots of stucco and wood exterior. Upon entering our unit, which is a two room suite, the decoration is of resort /Tommy Bahama/Hawaiian style and the appliances such as TV, frig, shower fixtures are a bit dated. But I was pleasantly surprised that the unit is kept in quite an excellent shape. And I will say the overall service at the resort was quite excellent from parking attendant, front desk, etc. The inability to have access to your car right in front of your unit is a pain, esp after a long day of tennis when you are sore everywhere.

Now about tennis. I thought overall it was a very positive experience. I am an advanced player and thought the drills were excellent and my instructor, Vlad, was very helpful in improving certain parts of my game. But beware, the drills/ exercise is quite intense. You will be sore at the end of the day. Mona the coordinator was also very attentive and cordial. Our group did not get any video review however.

So overall, the resort is great for tennis players who want to sharpen their game. Even though the resort is a bit dated, the service and the people make up for it!!

I "won" a charity auction for a 2-night stay at Saddlebrook with 2 days of tennis and breakfast included. I went with two friends. Overall, it was a great experience.

The adult tennis clinic was exceptional - 5 hours of tennis per day with opportunities to play more. The clinics were well-paced, which is necessary for playing that long, and for much of the time it was just the 3 of us with a pro (Sean C - highly recommend - friendly, gave great advice and assistance on strokes, patient, fun). The clinic was very organized and every thing moved incredibly smoothly. The individual video of one's strokes was humbling, but very helpful. I definitely plan to return and do the tennis clinic again.

The room was very suitable to our needs with two queen beds - incredibly comfortable - and a pull-out sofa. Nice accommodations (a bit surprised that no flat screen TV at this level of a resort) and a great shower with massage head for after tennis. Everything was clean, but seemed a bit shabby on close inspection (peeled paint in corners, etc). The outside of the buildings seems a bit outdated, particularly the stairs to the second floor (which were a bit rickety in spots).

It was chilly during my stay so could not use the pool, but looked very nice and had a nice pool area with bar. Had a fantastic sports massage with Drew at the spa. Just the right amount of deep tissue massage and I think it definitely helped me get through the 2 days of tennis.

Breakfast buffet in Tropics Restaurant was okay, but were it not included, we would have picked up something at the nearby grocery store and made breakfast in the kitchenette in the room. Had lunch in Tropics one day, as well - again, okay, but nothing spectacular. Had a great dinner at the steakhouse (name of which is escaping me). But, make sure you make reservations well in advance - we weren't able to get a table until 9:15pm, which seemed very late after playing tennis all day. The food was worth the wait, but we were very tired and probably didn't enjoy it as much as we would have earlier in the evening.

Just beautiful suroundings, big amazing pool area, a great place to eat, right by the pool area, a extraordinary golf course and if you want to play tennis, the have that too. The resort is a gated community so you feel perfectly safe at night if you want to take a walk. The pool, jacuzzi was open til late midnight so it was very romantic to be able to swim in the lighted pools and see the stars above you.
There was a mix of people, families, older couples and younger couples. Friendly staff and just perfect!

We rented a privately owned 3 bedroom, 2 1/2 bathroom, condo for the month of January, 2010. The size was functional for our needs. Furniture was just adequate, with the beds ranging from good, to poor. On arrival there were various issues that needed attention. Dishwasher was totally inoperable and had mold and stale water sitting in it; fridge was leaking water onto the floor; washing machine had a load of clothes long left in it. Bedding was questionably clean and was rewashed. Towels we used were all washed with bleach to remove stains. All outside lights were burnt, along with many inside. Hot tub was operating but not heating..of no use in other words. Vehicle offered for use had expired license, flat tire, dead battery, and fluid leak. NO key to the pool facility was offered. Had to chase to acquire a receipt for cash payment to property manager. Dishes were dirty; fry pans burnt and unusable; knives cheap and a hazard. Cost was high for what we got. Check carefully what you will receive for your money. A car is an absolute must to get around...no public transport. Golf and/or tennis was not included in the rental.
