“Classic Florida Attraction”
Reviewed July 23, 2005

My family and I visited Weeki Wachee Springs, home of the mermaids, in June 2005. We had heard of and seen pictures of this park, as my children's great-grandparents and great-great grandparents have been visitors to this park.

The park is not very large, but does have enough to do for the day. The park has 3 different shows featuring live mermaids swimming in the spring. You view the show through an underwater glass theatre. We saw 2 of the shows, the first being a classic mermaid show, and the 2nd being an enactment of "The Little Mermaid" story. The show also, surprisingly, comes into the theatre, as several of the actors make an appearance inside during the show. My children loved the shows.

There is also a boat ride down the river that is fed by the spring. That ride was very nice, as we saw a lot of different birds and fish. We were also told that there are manatees and river otters there, but we did not see them.

The other thing that makes this park worth visiting, is the included Buccaneer Bay water park. Because we arrived late, we did not use the water park. We also did not have time to see the bird show.

Weeki Wachee is located north of Tampa. It is a little out of the way, but overall, this classic Florida park is worth the visit. The grounds are nice, and the attractions remind me of the real Florida, compared to the theme parks of Orlando.

“Unique and fun place”
Reviewed December 15, 2004

A cute attraction to see. The mermaid show was something really unique. The stage is built into the side of a beautiful natural spring. Our six your old daughter was thrilled at the show and also the chance to talk to real mermaids. The water park was shutdown at the time we were there, but would have really added to the fun.

“Great day trip”
Reviewed May 15, 2004

My husband and I visited on 05/08/2004. The boat ride was great, we saw pelicans, otters, gators, etc. and the scenery was beautiful. The mermaid show was also ver entertaining and it was wonderful to see a piece of Florida history. The waterpark, Buccaneer Bay, was very crowded so we did not spend much time there at all. The food was not so good. I had a salad which was iceberg lettuce with a few olives and cherry tomatoes, my husband had a chili dog which smelled like and he said tasted like cigarette butts - try to eat before you go! But the boat ride and mermaid show are well worth the money!

“Disappointed”
Reviewed July 22, 2003

Boat ride had been cancelled. Only have one boat ,. Need to have two so at least one would be working. Need fans in the animal shows. Too warm to be able to enjoy them. should have someone explain to audience for mermaid show about how much training mermaids have to ido before they can perform. Poor food selection in the resturant. Mermaid show was very good. Not quite as elaaborate as it used to be but still very good.
