Mary and I had kayaked before, but it was our first time in Vero Beach, so we decided to give it a try at Paddles by the Sea. We reserved an hour online and met Ben the next day at the end of the dock behind the Riverside Cafe. Our tandem kayak was easy to maneuver even against a headwind I guesstimated at around 10-15 mph (very large US flag blown straight out). A beautiful sunny day, we saw what we thought was an osprey nest high in a tree with the two flying about. The tour was easier on the way back to the dock with the wind. Great memories!

Our crew is trained to read the river conditions and we always recommend what direction to go so you have a smooth ride back. We refresh our fleet regularly (every year for paddle boards and two years for kayaks) so they are always in top condition. You definitely spotted an osprey nest on the spoil island just north of Memorial Park, good eye! We look forward to seeing you out on the water when you are back in Vero Beach!

My husband and I went paddle boarding for the first time it was great. Something we would do again and we would recommend Paddles by the Sea my husband called to get this for my birthday and he was so impressed with the knowledge and caring he received from this company we will use them again.

Chris was a most gracious host and informative guide! My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful hour and a half paddle with Chris. Our visit to Vero Beach was just short of two weeks post hurricane Irma and we were both skeptical about continuing with our plans to visit Florida but nonetheless the need for a much needed break finalized our decision to stay with our plans in seeking Florida sunshine!
Chris told us how the weather plays havoc with the river ecosystem and unfortunately we did not see any manatee but lucked out on a brief dolphin viewing. These river dolphins were swimming with a huge yacht heading south down the river and made for some pretty cool pictures!!
Also, I want to mention that you do not need to be a seasoned paddler for this tour. You go at it depending on your skill (or lack of) which is totally fine! Chris will stress that you make this tour your own and go at whatever pace you are comfortable with.
Any questions at all can be address with Chris prior to your excursion. He will inform you on appropriate attire etc.
A few weeks after we returned home from Vero Beach, we received a video of our Paddles By the Sea excursion - a great bonus indeed!

Chris drove in from home to rent a tandem kayak to my daughter and I! It was after 5:00, I saw one of his signs and called him on a fluke. He was incredibly kind, emphasized that we were not a bother or putting him out at all and generally what every good business needs to look like!
Chris provided us with life preservers, a waterproof case for the phone and had a locked storage box on the dock for our personal items (car keys, etc...). He even had sunscreen! Wear clothes you wouldn't mind getting we just in case, but the kayaks are so stable you would have to work really hard to flip them. You will need POLARIZED sunglasses so that you can see into the water, a hat, a bottle of water and your cellphone or waterproof camera.
We saw dolphins! We also got to see an amazing sunset while getting in a great upper body workout! Don't worry though, this is only as strenuous as you want it to be. The equipment is excellent and he had a very slick set up for getting into and out of the water. No trying to balance the kayak while you climb in and hope you don't fall in before you leave the dock! Trust me on this, this is the best set up I have ever seen!
I can't wait to go back and learn to paddle board from him and I cannot recommend his business enough!
