We spent five days at the resort and had an outstanding time. Most of my thoughts are consistent with other comments so I will stick to just my observations that are unique.

Kayaking - My son and I did the kayaking "excursion." This is a must do, however, it is 4 hours, 3 of which are spent in the water. If you are not in good physical shape, it can be a bit tiring. Plus, we were fortunate enough to have some cloud cover and a breeze so it was a bit cooler. If you do it on a cloudless day, the heat will get you. That said, the payoff was well worth it. The area where they take you has numerous manatees and we were fortunate enough to have a couple swim right up to the kayaks where we were able to rub there bellies. Also, we did not see any dolphins, but the guide said it is not uncommon to get close to dolphins. You really don't learn any of this unless you get out and do it.

Sea turtles - The beach in front of the resort has a huge population of sea turtles. During the summer months they come ashore at night to lay eggs. And if you are lucky you might get to some hatch. What is not well publicized around the resort is that during the day the turtles hang out just offshore. If you rent a kayak or a waverunner and go out a little bit you will be able to see them coming up for air. Its difficult to get close with the waverunner though.

Restaurants - I too recommend Captain Hirams and Squid Lips. Both of these restaurants were great for the kids. Because of how close they are to the water, the kids were able to feed to numerous catfish looking for handouts. I also recommend Mulligans which is right on the beach in downtown Vero Beach. Great atmosphere there. If you are looking for Italian, Bella Napoli was also great. For southern BBQ, go to Sonnys. Yes we love to eat out. The nice thing is that there was never a wait for a table even at prime dining times.

Indian River mall is a waste of time. Plenty of Wal-Marts and Targets nearby to get necessities cheap. No-seeums are a small problem, however, if you live in area with mosquitos, there is not much difference. One mosquito bite equals five noseeum bites. Bug spray was ineffective in my opinion. You mainly get bit at the campfires and the movie nights by the pool. So I would just recommend wearing long sleeves and pants if possible to those events.

Great place for star gazing if you are into that sort of thing.

Played golf at Sanderling. Great public course at a reasonable price. $48 for greens fees, cart and rental clubs. The dunes course, although short, is very tight. So bring plenty of balls.

Character breakfast was nice but a bit overpriced. $16.99 a head for adults. Basically its just a continental breakfast with eggs and bacon. They should at least throw in some salmon and other choices for that price. The one good deal was the $12.50 refillable mug. For the one time fee, you get all the soft drinks and coffee (in the morning) you can drink.

No real complaints. The rooms could use some freshening up. It would also be good to have wireless internet extend to the rooms. You can only get a connect in the lobby or in the center areas. Lots of shell pieces on the beach. Not a huge problem but bring pool shoes if you or your kids have sensitive feet.

Disney's Vero Beach resort is a great place for families. We stayed here for a week at the end of July. We were a little concerned about the heat, but being right on the water made the afternoons comfortable. The resort itself is not large as compared to many other Disney hotels. But never seemed to small or crowded. They were plenty of activities for the kids. I wish that Disney would just charge a little more and make all the activities part of the overall price. At times it seemed like we were being nickeled and dimed on everything. The resteraunt on site (Shutters) was ok. Food was bland and the service was really slow. Even when the place was empty. The beach and pool were well maintained and offered hours of enjoyment for my family. I would think that the perfect age for kids would be between 6-12 years of age. Any older and there did not seem to be as much to do. Overall I would recommend this resort to friends and would consider going back.

I read others reviews and they were excellent and very helpful. I have nothing but great things to say. There were 12 of us total in three different rooms. The rooms were spacious and clean and we faced the ocean. We hate feeling ripped off so here is some advice for those of you who like to save a little cash.............stop at publix and load your fridge with beer, wine and food. The room has a toaster and coffee maker and small fridge. Buy a cheap or disposable cooler to keep your drinks cold while you're at the beach so that you don't have to keep running upstairs. Also we purchased a cheap beach umbrella (5.99) instead of renting one for $12.00 a day , at the end of our stay we offered it to people who were sitting there without one and we told them when they checked out just to pass it along to someone else. You need a vehicle if you stay here because you'll want to eat someplace else. We ate outside at captain hiram's - it has a party atmosphere with bands/ dj's and you could get fish or burgers or bbq's and it's right on the water with the beach as the floor - prices were reasonable. The other good place with a family friendly atmosphere as Mr. Manatee and all of us had great meals and the price was great too. Locals gave us the names of these places. All in all our stay was great and the hotel, activities and cleanliness were top notch as you'd come to expect with disney.

just came back from a weeks stay. It was a great hotel, clean and very accomadating, Staff very nice and helpful. Studios a little small compared to other Disney studios. Balcony a little small and closed in. Restaurants a little pricy. Went to Walmart for breakfast and lunch items, ate dinner out. We had a GPS, so we got everywhere pretty easy. Giusseppe Pizza was the best, early bird specials 4-6, soup to nuts for 12.50. Pool was very nice and clean. Only 4' though. Campfire with smores on a couple of nights, movie in the pool a couple of nights, go early you will not get a chair up front, then you will have to stand in pool. All in all, wonderful vacation, great weather, Will definitely go back but will get a bigger room.

We just returned from a five day stay at Disney's Vero Beach. We are DVC members and have vacationed here before. It is the most relaxing vacation there is. We stayed in a two bedroom unit. We shopped for food at the Super Walmart and Publix. I love to cook, so we ate a majority of meals in our room. We always drive up to Captain Hirams in Sebastian when we are at the resort for lunch or dinner. We also ate at Shutters. They used to have a frittata on the breakfast menu but this time it was not. It was so good. The staff went out of their way to make it for me anyway. The rental fee for beach chairs and umbrella can add up for a five day stay. I believe it was $28. a day . We went to Walmart and bought two umbrellas and two chairs for a total of $27. We gave them to a family when we left. They said they would pass them down when they leave. All in all the staff is great, the accomadations beautiful. A truly relaxing vacation. But, as said before, take bug spray for the no see ums. They are lethal at dawn and dusk.

Had a relaxing long weekend, so family friendly our 3 yr old had a blast, there were a number of activities each day some were free she enjoyed treasure hunt, bubbles and the evening camp fire with smores ( be sure to use lots of bug spray, we did not and have the bites to prove it.)
All the staff were awesome and made our visit extra special, they payed special attention to our 3 yr old .
The location is great with the beach a few steps away and a beautiful large pool, kids pool was a pirate ship but had lots of sprays which our daughter did not care for.
Restaurant was a little pricey $15-25 dinner entrees but food was top notch, pot roast was amazing even at $18.
Rooms are spacious and well equipped our 1 bed apt had a full kitchen lcd tv and huge jetted tub.
Resort is about 20 mins north Of Downtown Vero Beach.
A good day out is Sebastion Inlet State Park 6 miles north of the resort costs $5 per car has nice shallow tidal bay which is great for little ones.
Had such a relaxing weekend will go back soon.

Disney's Vero Beach Resort is a lovely place to truly relax and enjoy. Located off of AIA, the resort is right on the Atlantic Ocean with turquoise waters and a great pool area. The staff is welcoming and most helpful. We were most fortunate to be there to witness the hatching of sea turtles which was an amazing experience. We stayed in a one bedroom villa and all the amenities made the vacation a 100% great experience. Highly recommended to all age groups.
