The Taste of Venice Grand Gourmet Food Tour

Owner description: The Grand Gourmet Tour will take you on a mouth-watering three hour culinary tour of historic downtown Venice, FL. You will visit 5-6 restaurants all within a 3 block area. Enjoy several tastings and meet the owner/chef at each venue, get a souvenir bag w/menus & special offers. NOTE:The unfavorable review from ddkingut recently, while both surprising and bruising to our ego, filled us with a resolve to re-examine our operation, to compare it with similar vendors and to seek input from both current and prior guests. While this will be an ongoing procedure in the next few months, our candid conversations with guests on the last 5 tours since that review was published, seem to vindicate our procedures and the quality and creativity of our restaurants delicious tastings. The comments most frequently heard were "it was so much MORE than we expected" and " our (various relatives) would LOVE this". In fact, one couple from a recent tour, who are soon to be parents of the bride, are arranging for the Grand Gourmet Food Tour as an activity for their daughters bridal party this May. We are also getting referrals from many local residential communities that participated in earlier tours. Granted, we are still a work in progress as we continue to learn and grow. But make no mistake, we are proud of our restaurant partners and the quality and diversity of the tastings that they prepare and serve. The content of the souvenir bag that guest receive with menus, local attractions, historical information, and special offers continues to expand as we collaborate with other local businesses to enhance the value of this added feature. In short, as long time devotee's of the Culinary tour experience, we know that our venue meets and exceeds industry standards, but we will constantly "tweak" our formula when necessary to bring our guests a truly FIRST RATE experience..... We took this tour with Ed last Thursday and due to a cancellation it was just the four of us. Ed was very knowledgeable and gave us the history of Venice during the tour. We visited 5 food establishments but first took a small detour to a magic shop where the owner showed us some great tricks. He is a very killed magician. The food was an organic lunch and breakfast stop where we had an amazing smoothie ( with spinach but you couldn't tell), a chicken salad wrap and a chicken panini, all delicious. Then we went to an Italian restaurant where the food was fantastic (we're going back for dinner this week), then another restaurant where we had spicy shrimp and stuffed mushrooms, again very nice. We then had chance to try out our limited French as we went to a tapas bar run by a French lady ( the Thursday tour goes here and the Tuesday one goes to her brother's French restaurants) and had tapas. Finally we went to an old fashioned soda fountain and started with the most delicious pizza followed by an ice cream sundae. We were stuffed, the portions were generous at all of the places we visited and four restaurants would have filled us never mind five!
A really great afternoon spent with a really nice man in some really nice restuarants with some really nice staff - highly recommended but do 't eat before you go and have some small bills to tip the staff in each place. We got a Groupon voucher which made it a really good deal.

The Grand Gourmet Tour on Thursday was a wonderful experience. Sampled a variety of food from great restaurants. I was glad we were walking so I wasn't overstuffed as the samples were plentiful. Ed gives a history of Venice while walking and a bit of a story on each restaurant. The tour group was fun and lively. I highly recommend the tour and will definitely do it again next time I'm in Venice! Many thanks Ed and Kay.

This was a very pleasant tour of Venice dinning locations. Ed and Kay pointed out the highlights of each stop and also shared the history of Venice as we strolled the area. We enjoyed the foods and the interaction with the staffat each venue. We highly recommend this tour.

My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon visiting the restaurants on the tour. We immediately made reservations for 4 at Cassariano after their delicious food was served. The pizza at Soda Fountain along with the hot fudge sundae was also very tasty and the pizza throwing demonstration added to the entertainment. Le Petite Bistrot's pork pate melted in our mouth. Ciao Gelato gave us two samples of their Gelato. Cafe Venice was the only restaurant that didn't quite come up to expectations as the samples were quite dried out. But we purchased a glass of wine and all was good! We did have a Groupon, so we paid $30 each for our tour. I believe we received a bargain. Not sure I would pay 60 each. Ed and Kay did a good job of providing history and interesting facts about Venice.

Our family spent an afternoon with Ed and Kay touring 6 of Venice's fine restaurants and sampling their cuisine. What a great time. They have picked a wide variety of places to visit and we'll certainly be revisiting many of them. The food we were served was more than ample to get a taste of each establishment's character and some, like Cassariano's polenta, were simply exquisite! Places we had been by before and never visited turned out to be hidden gems, like the Soda Fountain. And, to top it all off, we finished up with a visit to Ciao Gelato for a cup of some of the best gelato we've tasted in the states. Thanks again, Ed and Kay, for putting together such a great tour.
