“Good breakfast spot”
Reviewed April 5, 2013

Breakfasts are the standard but the portion sizes are large. Better coffee then the average. Can get crowded during peak hours.

“Dated”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

Been to Althea's for breakfast twice in the last couple of years. I would recommend sitting outside if possible in the sun. The inside restaurant has a sort of dusty, 1970's feel to it, which personally I find depressing but maybe others don't mind. Food is average breakfast fare and the coffee is watery. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The place just could do with a bit of a lift.

“Good food, nice staff and, Maxine the parrot, all in one!”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

We recently dined at Althea's and again enjoyed our visit. We had the cod w/shrimp and capers sauce and the pan seared crab cakes w/a delightful lobster sauce, w/a hint of sherry in it. The lobster sauce was so good, I was dipping everything in it. The vegetables of carrots and broccoli were perfectly steamed. The sweet potato was also cooked perfect and we peeled the skin right off of it and had a mound of delicious sweet potato. The grain bread was a nice addition to the meal. The desserts were beautifully presented and excellent! Add to that to the" buy one get one free drink", and we were more than pleased. Our server Betsy, was attentive and friendly. And what can you say about Maxine? , the talking parrot. A well cared for loved parrot, that is a hoot! She whistles, talks, and even sings opera. A dining establishment well worth going to.

“Worth a visit.”
Reviewed March 18, 2013 via mobile

Kept reading the ads for this downtown Venice spot, so we decided to give it a try. Althea's was pretty good (except for the horrible Margaritas which we sent back!). The sangria tasted like soda pop & had no fruit. The overall meal was good. The grain bread was delicious. The lobster tails were perfectly prepared--not overlooked & dried out. Light, crispy, flavorful French fries, tasty steamed veggies made good sides. Too bad the coconut-almond coating on tilapia was almost non-existent. Disappointing. Our server, Anna, was personable & efficient making our overall experience a pleasant one.
