“Good food and view”
Reviewed April 15, 2013

We've heard of this place and a group of 4 ladies aged 40 ish to 60ish decided to check it out. We went to an early dinner; 4ish to avoid the crowds that we expected. It wasn't crowded despite a festival and run in the area that weekend. We sat outside which was great; the inside is looking run down, but they are expanding so maybe they will remodel once the expansion is done. We had an appetizer of a flatbread apple brie - it was amazing. We each chose a different dish and none of us were disappointed and we all took home leftovers, we will definitely be back.. and for the northerners, I was told the owner is from Michigan and has fresh Great Lakes perch shipped in, so if you're wanting perch this is the place to get it. Prices were reasonable for the type/amount of food you get. Great service too.

“Their only saving grace is location”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

Why is it so often true that the restaurants that are reputed to be "the place to go in town" turn out to be resting on their reputation rather than good food and service? The fatty melted cheese appetizer was no different than one of the cheaper offerings from the frozen food aisle. The mixed drinks (they feature menu of seven drinks named for each day of the week) were so weak, so abysmal, (our group had 3 of the 7) that there really aren't adequate words. The best one tasted like the last bit a drink that had blended with the melted ice cubes. The others were equally weak and tasted like cough watered down cough syrup. The strawberry salad had wilted greens, fish that could be smelled when it was set on the table, and not pleasantly. The other entrees were....very average, relying on cheap and plentiful fats for flavor. Go to enjoy the setting, only drink beer, and don't go especially hungry.

“Great family friendly meal spot on the beach”
Reviewed April 13, 2013 via mobile

We are spending a long weekend in Venice and went to Sharkys last night for dinner. They have a very large menu, great drinks and a wonderful atmosphere. We had a mixed group of children, young adults and my older grandmother and everyone was really impressed. Wait staff was every attentive and food was outstanding. So good we are going back for dinner this evening.

“Great location, food ok”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

We loved this place!

We arrived early and requested an outdoor table, (60 minute wait with one of those electronic gizmos that tells you when the table's ready). We then had a relaxing walk down the pier, watched a group of stingrays feeding in the shallows and a dolphin playing south of pier, met some interesting locals and then returned for the meal.

The food was good, but not outstanding, but we weren't expecting fine dining - this is a glorified beach cafe. The Captain's Combo was a tad overpriced at $27, but my dad thought the scallops were good.

What it did do well was provide a fabulous location and atmosphere for a family meal, with the sunset right on cue. The three piece band played perfect music for the beach location and we all had a great time.

“Surprising food”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

With cousins from Cleveland who regularly stay in Englewood, Sharky's was another of their "regular" restaurants they frequent in Florida. We visited the week after Easter, and as expected, it was busy and the wait was long. We elected "first available" but still waited about an hour.

We "hung around" the outdoor bar which served the usual "tropical" drinks that were welcome, after all, since we were escaping the long winter of the north coast. There was live music, some teenagers on the dancefloor, and overall a pleasant, "expected" environment.

Given the size of this establishment together with it expected to be "tourist-y", I was pleasantly surprised by the food. I travelled to Florida craving black grouper, and was excited to see it listed on the chalkboard as one of the "fresh catches" of the day. Not really expecting it to be that good, I was pleasantly surprised and must admit that it was one of the best seafood dinners I had during our week in Florida. The others (3 adults + 4 teenagers) were all pleased with their food, as well, and overall, as my review is titled, I was surprised with the quality of the food - pleasantly.

Service at the bar and by our waitress was average. Prices were about as expected. A very reasonable choice particularly for someone in the area who would like to take advantage of a waterfront restaurant with easy access to the pier. NOTE: Not that it's important, but it may come as somewhat of a surprise that alcohol is not allowed on the pier. So, do not expect to order a drink and walk out onto the pier for a nice view of the sunset.
