“Trick to Treat”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 13, 2013

It was really hard to rate this restaurant after this one experience but it was a zinger! The food was good , I think but it was hard to tell. We were told by several people that it was a sleeper and the chef is from Philly, our hometown . So off we went for brunch. There a was short wait and the hostess was friendly.
We sat down at the table and there was only one rolled up silverware set. After a bit the young waitress came by and gave us menus & asked about drinks . I ordered my ice tea and my husband asked for his when he received him food. I ordered the Italian omelette & my husband ordered pancakes and eggs. Well, out comes my breakfast w/out toast & my husband gets one fried egg on a dish ...nothing else. When questioned, the waitress said the kitchen is tiny and is overwhelmed w/ orders. It will be right out. Well, after flagging her down and inquiring about the situation, she again tells us about the kitchen being small and they can,t get the food out fast enough. Ok. The pancakes come ; they r under cooked, his 1st egg is cold, where is the 2nd egg, , no coffee, forgot the toast, new egg come and finally new pancakes and coffee. In between all this waiting , we heard at least 1/2 doz times that "kitchen is tiny and can't keep up w/ the orders" . So while my food was good, this was not a pleasant meal. I did speak w/ the hostess but she used the same excuse and was not so friendly about our poor dining experience . To their defense , they stapled a coupon to our check to come back , which we certainly will. Then , maybe, the "tiny" kitchen will b able to keep up w/the orders!

“This place is a real "sleeper"”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 7, 2013

This little restaurant is located in a "no-tell motel" kind of place on the Tamiami Trail in Venice. We only went there because it was recommended by friends. What a pleasant surprise. One of the best restaurants in Venice and the prices are very reasonable. Have had breakfast and lunch there several times and recently went for dinner (only open for dinner on Fri/Sat nights). Was sad to see the Fried Green Tomatoes had fallen off the menu...but there were still plenty of great dishes to choose from. Give it a try.

“Great food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

First visit to this restaurantr and made to feel like old friends. Had a fish had never heard of before, cobia, and it was excellent. Staff did a good job of handling the crowd of the first Friday of "the season." Chef came to table afterwards to see how we liked our meal.

“Wonderful Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2013

We have lived in Venice during season for 3 years, but today was our first time at the Blu Island Bistro. What a wondeful experience. Our waitress Nicole was a woderful help. My wife had the Blu salad with chicken and I ordered the grilled Mahi tacos. Both were some of the best food we have had in Venice. We will be regular customers in the future.
