“They do fish at Cedar Reef Fish Camp!”
Reviewed February 16, 2013

We've had lunch at Cedar Reef about 5 or six times in the past year and the fare is just great here! We tried the plank salmon and my wife loved it. I like the Alaskan pollock fish sandwich. The little place has become busier than ever as the word gets out that it is real. The snowbirds are in abundance and that's good for the business. The staff are very good and they move like the wind to keep up with the traffic. The chef comes out to chat once in a while and he says that a year and a half ago they were wondering where the customers were. Now he knows they have heard of his place because he's as busy and a on-armed paper hanger! This is a very casual spot without pretention and I hope it stays that way. Thank you Cedar Reef Fish Camp.

“Locals don't eat here twice”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

"eh" food not nearly impressive enough to outweigh frustrating, unpleasant atmosphere. 10 minutes in either direction offer better w/out the wait. Gave it two chances because it was nearby and new but this tacky Iittle attempt at a restaurant won't get a third chance from us.

“Eat where the locals eat...”
Reviewed February 12, 2013

Have been hearing good things about this restaurant, and decided to meet a friend here for dinner last night and was not disappointed. The jumbo shrimp cocktail was aptly named, and perfectly cooked, with a tangy cocktail sauce that perfectly complimented the shellfish. I ordered the plank grilled salmon- a generous portion served with garlic mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. Everything was seasoned just right, and there was enough left over for lunch the next day. My dining companion ordered the chipotle seasoned steak- I don't think he particularly cared for the chipotle, but said the steak was cooked just the way he ordered it, and was very tender and juicy. Our server talked us into splitting a piece of peanut butter pie which was huge, dense and very decadent. The atmosphere allowed us to carry on a conversation without having to raise our voices- pleasant and cozy. I will definitely be returning to this charming little restaurant- nice to support a local business where they get things right.

“Not a bad find in Venice”
Reviewed February 10, 2013

I love little places like this! Small, as in tiny, local run with good food, good beer and wine list and friendly staff. The food came out fast and it was pretty tasty, burger, fish sandwich, fish and chips, and shrimp and grits all were good. The double dipper appetizer was good, esp the spinach dip! ( seriously garlicky!)
The only down side was the fact that it is such a tiny place. We had to sit outside, they have a few tables out front for additional space. The outside seating area is dog friendly and they have a doggy menu for those that bring their 4 footed friends. Since this is in a strip plaza, outside means right on the parking lot, and it was a bit chilly outside last night, so it really didn't make for a comfortable dinner. Easy remedy would be to have a couple patio heaters in place.
Overall, the food was good, and I would go back again, just on a warmer night, or make sure I got an inside table.

“Fresh Fish”
Reviewed February 8, 2013

Small place located in a strip of shops in Venice Florida. Excellent daily fresh fish specials at very reasonable prices. They have a surprisingly large menu. The best blackened red fish I have ever eaten. Friendly service in a pleasant place. It does get very busy so go early or go late.
