Every year when we go to Venice Beach we make sure we stop in at the Soda Fountain in downtown Venice for an ice cream float. This time we actually sat and had dinner (it is combined with Vinnie's Pizzeria). Everything was wonderful as usual! This is a must place to stop after a fun time on the beach.

My family and I were visiting Venice again and found this super cute soda fountain on Venice Avenue. A perfect lunch after our morning on the beach. It is like stepping back in time--we all loved the 50s kitsch. The service was great. It was busy with a lunch crowd but we were immediately greeted at the door and seated in one of the booths. There is also an old school counter with a soda jerk behind it and several tables. The menu had a great variety and there was something for everyone--sandwiches, salads, hot dogs, pizza...and milkshakes and malts. Have fun choosing a flavor. We each splurged and got one and they were delicious! Well worth it. Oh, and don't forget the garlic knots. They are to die for. The food was all great and the price was more than reasonable for everything we got. Already looking forward to our next day at the beach just so we can stop here again.

We where three people who ordered a sandwich, even though the place didn't seem crowded we waited 30 min. for the first to be served, after another 5 min. the next sandwich was served, only to discover It was missing the cheese, the waitress took it out and came back some minutes later,
the sandwich now had cheese in it, but It looked like a bad car accident, after 5 more minutes the last one was served. I've been on vacation in US 5-6 times this Is the worst resturant experience I've ever had ! Not OK to pay 40$+ fore something like this.

We walked out, not once, but twice. HORRID customer service. Many years ago this used to be one of my wife's and my favorite places to go after a Venice sunset, but their customer service is is absolutely atrocious. BOTH times in the last three months my wife and I have walked out because, despite us seating ourselves, NOBODY greeted us. Nobody brought us silverware. Nobody said hello. Nobody brought us water. Nobody said "Hi! I'll be right with you!" And this during off-season, when every dollar is gold? Unacceptable. We will not be back.
Obviously the owner is making enough money to pay off his BMW and new boat and could care less about their customers.

We're very sorry to hear of your uncharacteristic experience in our Soda Fountain. With three servers, a soda jerk and a counterman on duty the day you visited, ii's hard to understand your not being welcomed. Please accept our sincere apologies for your experience. P.S. it's a Ford truck.

The Soda Fountain is a small, shared space (with Vinnie's Pizza) in picturesque downtown Venice. It feels and looks like entering a portal into the real 1950s--not the hamburger joints with car hops, but the places right on Main St. with a few small tables, a counter, and the mom 'n pop folks who knew your kith and kin. It's where you can get real egg creams, malts, BLTs, egg salad on toast, and grilled cheese, served with a pickle--just the kind of things you think a soda fountain should offer. The decor is funky 50's, with period ads and atmosphere. Inexpensive good food and a great experience in the midst of a day of shopping (window or otherwise) on Venice's central boulevard.
