My family wanted a place to eat where we could sit and relax and have great food.Well I'd say we got that and even more. Our server, Natalie set us all up and her suggestions were exactly what we wanted. Our meals were perfect and its safe to say we will definately be back.

We usually don't disagree with other reviewers, but this place is just not that great. We are Venice residents and always try a new restaurant if it seems promising. We have been to Back Eddy for dinner twice. The first time was shortly after it opened. That was one of the more bizarre restaurant experiences we have had. We went with another couple. There were several salads listed as entrees. The other guy and I both ordered the salad Nicoise. When it arrived, it was the size of a side salad, and about half of the standard ingredients in salad Nicoise (which were listed on the menu) were missing. When we pointed this out to the wait person, she came back with a plate and dumped some, but by no means all, of the missing ingredients on our plates. However, the women had better intuition. They both ordered fish and said that their entrees were acceptable. The bruscetta appetizer, which we ordered after discovering that we were going to starve with the salad, was fine. The wines, which came in very generous glasses, could not have been more than 4 oz.
After that experience, it took us another year to return, but we went back recently for dinner with another couple. The "entree" salads were still on the menu, and seeing them presented to other patrons, the quantity had not increased much. We were forewarned, and ordered a variety of other entrees. My wife's fish was again fine. The other couple was politely noncommittal. My entree, which sounded terrific - grilled shrimp over pasta in a curry sauce - was disappointing. The shrimp, on skewers, were very overcooked and had an overpowering hot sauce on them. The curry was bland and watery, and the combination was a misfit. The wine quantities had been beefed up to the standard 6 oz. The decor is very nice. It is a storefront on a side street of the charming downtown area, but they use nice linens, and the spare ambience is tasteful. There is an attractive bar area, nicely separated from the dining room. Overall, however, given the upscale (for Venice) prices, you would be much better off at Cassariano or Cafe Venice if you appreciate good food.

Had a great meal here last night with my mother (who is a Venice resident.) She had never been before but was very happy to find this great restaurant. We split the beet salad which I highly recommend and we both had fish dishes. Both entrees were fabulous! Glad to find a new place to go! Bar looked friendly and was fairly busy for a Thursday night.

We discovered this find while wandering the downtown area of Venice Island. Our waiter was fabulous, recommending wines and entrees. He didn't steer us wrong. The food was outstanding and the wine chosen was perfect. This will be one of our favorites in Venice.

We discovered Back Eddy Bistro in May 2008 shortly after they opened. Since they're located on Miami Ave., one block off the main Venice Ave., I'm afraid many people don't even know they exist. What a mistake! The chef has been a personal chef to many celebrities and his attention to fine food and detail shows in all that he creates. He and his wife have created a warm, friendly atmosphere where having a glass of wine at the bar feels like you're walking into a gathering of friends and neighbors. Check it out - you won't believe what you've been missing.
