“Great location at a great price”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

We stayed at the Island Inn the first week of March and had a terrific stay. The view of the gulf was outstanding, we were able to see dolphins from our room on the gulf as well as the canal out the front door. Wind was the only downside of our getaway, the temperature was around 70 winds made it feel much cooler. Beautiful area, quiet , safe, and not far from the action.

We stayed 03/07/13 thru 03/12 in room 609. The room was awesome considering the age of the hotel. I have read other reviews about the lack of hot water, we had no issues. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The Lady that runs the concessions on the beach chairs was absolutely fantastic! The beach is very clean and has plenty of room. The area is full of places to eat and shop, and if you want to stock up the kitchen in your room their is a Publix just a few blocks away. To the right of the hotel just a few blocks away is a convenience store that sells liquor and wine and has very friendly clerks. Rick's Tiki bar is ran by the nicest people I have met behind a bar in a long time.
If you are looking for a great beach vacation on the gulf, check this place out. I will be back.

Room Tip: Higher the room the better the view, remember, every room has a private balcony and they all face du...

I have stayed here before. This time I went through a private owner I found on Rentalo.com. I got a great deal and the unit is well taken care of. Lay in bed and look at the ocean. The studio layout means the bed is by the beach, not tucked back and away. The balconies are private. You can usually find a spot to park under the building. Heated pool and area is clean. I did not visit the Tiki Bar.

Wonderful beachfront room with balcony. My experience was pretty much the exact opposite of the negative reviews. It's not the Trump Towers but you know, you're not paying those rates, either. I got there very early and they let me check in immediately; anything I had a problem with was addressed immediately and cheerfully; the kitchenette was really convenient, with microwave, full-sized fridge, stove, dishes, etc. I made my reservation directly through the hotel and had no issues whatsoever with changed rates or anything. The front desk was fantastic about letting me switch rooms and they accommodated my request for a higher floor without a murmur. As to the complaints of rudeness, my experience was that polite, cheerful requests were met with polite, cheerful responses. As to the parking complaint, there isn't a lot of parking on site but they have an overflow lot right across the street (which I didn't have to use). I will absolutely stay at this hotel again when I am in the Sarasota/St. Petersburg/Tampa area.

Room Tip: Remember that many (all?) rooms are owned and rented out; therefore, each will be slightly different...

We were looking for a place to stay by the beach. This place did exactly that, it is located right on the beach and most if the rooms face the beach.

The rooms are timeshares so they are all a little different. The room we had was dated and small. There is not a lot of on room seating, but you're right on the beach what do you expect. The room was equipped with the basic extended stay rooms fridge, microwave, eating area and a stove top, no oven.

The hotel has beach volley ball, paddle boards and kayaks available for no charge.

The outdoor pool is small an not heated. There is a tiki bar on site that is right next to the pool it is nice and has decent drinks for a fair price. The only problem with it is the prices vary depending on what you are drinking and who serves you. As an example I ordered a draft beer that was a special for $2 and
My wife got a margarita which usually is $5 or $6, not sure since the bartender said she was charging more for the mixed drink since I was ordering a discounted item. Not a huge deal just annoying.

Most of the restaurants are about a half mile to a mile walk. It is an easy walk and the city has been adding crosswalks to make getting around easier.

All in all I would return to this hotel.

This small hotel still offers great old time Florida fun. Rooms are good size and have kitchenettes, sitting area etc. Most rooms have ocean view and are directly facing the Gulf of Mexico. Centrally located to attractions, shops, restaurants. The hotel also has a small pool and bar.

Room Tip: All rooms are similar. If you can get one on either end of the hotel behind the bulkhead there will...

I'm not sure what the bad review for Ricks was all about, because I never ever had a problem with the place or the staff. It's a bar in front of a pool, on the beach with a killer view. The drinks are very reasonable, and at times there is live entertainment. The girls that work there are very cordial, and very attentive. (for a beach bar, that is saying quite a bit) Rick is usually there and is always friendly and waiting to make you a colorful frozen drink, or serve you a cold beer when you come off the beach. Is there suppose to be more??? and why are we nitpicking while on vacation anyway?? If you are in a bad mood, hate the world for the day, nothing can change that! Even if you got all your drinks for free....

The Island Inn has been around for a long time and although it is not five star, it is more than good and with the views and pricing you cannot go wrong. Stop in and check it out, and make sure you have a cold one at Ricks............................................you will be back.
