“Thunderbird flies high on my list”

Thunderbird Hotel, Treasure Island, Florida
June 23-26, 2005.

We just finished our stay at the Thunderbird Hotel. It was my mom's family reunion and the hotel was so accommodating with all the needs of our family (80 of us were there). They assisted in judging contests, helping with other functions and helped organize our big family dinner on Saturday night. The facilities were always clean and taken care of very nicely. The pool was the most enjoyed part by all of us, 24/7 if we could have. The rooms were a standard size and having the kitchenettes were very helpful for having breakfast and lunch in (too help save on the old pocketbook). Overall, I would rate our stay above average. I would definitely recommend this location to friends when there is a budget to consider. We had great fun and would return in a heartbeat.

We had a family reunion at the Thunderbird Resort and they very very accommodating. All of the staff members were very nice and helpful at all times. We needed extra towels in our room and after that we always had that amount in our room after they did house cleaning. I was so impressed with the staff and their helpfulness I would recomend this resort to anyone as a vacation or if you are planning a reunion they were very good to work with you.

Our family just stayed at the resort from June 23 -June 26, 2005. We had our family reunion there and everything was great. The kids had a lot of fun and all of the employees were very friendly and always helpful. If planning a family reunion, this is a great place to go! We will come back in the future. Thank you Thunderbird Resort for making our trip a great one!!

Great facility that bent over backwards to accomodate our reunion of 79 family members. The management was very helpful and pleasant. Very nice facilities that are well kept and attractively maintained. The on-site restaurant was a big hit that everyone raved about. They provided our evening reunion dinner that was excellent and far above expectations. Live entertainment, a Tiki bar, excellent pool and beaches, volley ball, and more were enjoyed during our 3 day visit.

One minor issue was the noisy room air conditioning unit. The unit (at least that we had) should be upgraded. The beds were not that comfortable - but who really cares that much with that beach out back?

You know you're in trouble when your wife arrives with five bags of groceries and has to park about four blocks away because of a critical lack of parking. You also know you're in trouble when the hotel carpet leaves the bottom of your feet black like you've been outside walking in the grass and dirt. If you were in your 20s and into the smoking and drinking scene, then this would be the perfect place. If you're a family type person with young kids, you should go elsewhere. Maybe we picked a bad weekend (Memorial Day), but the place was filled with people who sat outside their hotel rooms with their doors open and did nothing but take drags on their cigarettes and swill down more alcohol. We had to make our way through liquored-up people just to get to the beach each day. The beach itself was wonderful and beautiful, with tons of white sand and gorgeous surf awaiting. But the noise from the patrons, the noise from the loud music at all hours and the questionable condition of the facility made this a less than memorable getaway. The bulk of the crowd did not venture down to the beach, which was good, because that meant they were too far away from the liquor. We ran out of toilet paper; I had to go to housekeeping and get more myself. For $180 a night plus taxes, it left a lot to be desired.

I stayed for the first time at the Thunderbird in April 2005, and it will be my last. The room was comfortable, with a nice view, but there were some significant noise, shower and parking problems.

I chose a beach view room, which I would recommend over the rooms by the pool. If you choose a room by the pool, especially the first floor, you will have people constantly walking right by your room. Your only window, will also be a nice viewing port to the inside of your room. The rooms closest to the office on one side, will also have people dining right outside your room each night.

The words "Tiki Bar" will for the rest of my life mean noisy bar, that makes my $150 a night beach view, sound of continuous Magaritaville. At least the music at the Tiki bar ended at sunset. To make matters worse, on Friday night the Best Western next door hosted a birthday party, and had live Jazz music. My room in between was a horrible clash of the two. Unfortunately the Jazz music went well past sunset, and finally ended at 9:15PM.

The A/C unit in my room was so noisy, that you could not have it on, and watch TV at the same time. It occasionally made a loud crack noise that woke me up about every 45 minutes at night. Fortunately I could swelter through the night, and leave it turned off, as April is not a very hot month.

Parking is very scarce at this "Resort". Generally, if you don't have a spot by 8PM, you are out of luck. Returning from dinner meant I had to wait for someone else to give up their spot to park the car for the evening. Stay away from the 2 parking spots between the Best Western and the Thunderbird. This is where the Tiki Bar musician drives his truck thru to pick up his equipment, and if your car is there, he will squeeze thru anyways.

The shower was completely unacceptable. It was barely a dribble, and quite low on the wall. It's temperature swung from frigid to scalding, and back constantly.

The pool was nice and comfortable. The beach is a little far away, but acceptable. There is a very nice promenade that stretches for about a mile along the hotel zone, which is a great place to walk. The location is nice as there are many places that you can walk to (we did this a lot, not to lose our parking space).

Lots of charm and character to a historic location. Convenient to shopping and beach. The pool was inviting as well as the hot tub. Fine dining was enjoyed along with casual beachside tiki hut with exceptional service. I look forward to another experience at the Thunderbird Hotel!
