“GREAT PLACE”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2006

After reading some of the reviews I was a quite concerned that this place would be a dump.. but I was pleased with every aspect about it. The price was reasonable for ocean front hotel and when we got there they gathered several phamlets of the area. When I got to our room we discovered it was not what we thought - it was a view of the gulf but without a balcony. We went back down and spoke with the hotel clerk - she retified the problem immediately. We got our room with on the Beach with our balcony. We were over the bar but the music wasn't too loud and they stopped playing early enough that we didn't loose sleep we didn't even here too much of the crowds in the bar.. Everyone was super nice and the rooms were super clean and nicely decorated the only down fall of the hotel was the beds were not the most comfortable, if the beds were upgraded this would be a perfect hotel.. close to shopping, dining and the trolley and the end of our visit we received coupons to come back within the next year and a great rate.. I would be back even without the discount.

  • Liked — the decor of the rooms and the balcony
  • Disliked — the beds were uncomfortable
  • Tips/Secrets — Don't go to the bar across the street Ricky T's- lousy music and weak drinks at expensive prices

The remodeled Bilmar Resort rooms are very attractive and well furnished.
We stayed for three nights, Thursday-Sunday in late October. Thursday night was very quiet and we loved the place.
On Friday there was a wedding on the beach at 6:00pm. It was interesting to watch from our room. The wedding party moved to the Beach restaurant below our room and it was very loud with music, PA announcements and screaming. Early on that was not a problem but the party lasted until 3:00am with no attempt by the management to tone it down. in any way.
On Saturday there was another evening wedding. This party moved to the inside pool area below our room. The noise from this party was even worse and magnified by the closed space around the pool. At 11:15pm I called the front desk and asked when I could expect the noise to stop. The night manager, Stacy, asked "what noise"? She did say she had heard some "hooting and hollering a few minutes ago". She said she would have security check it out. Nothing changed so I called back at 11:45pm. This time Stacy gave me a ration saying she had called security and knew nothing more. She said "Have a nice night" and hung up on me. The noise did stop about ten minutes later.
Do not stay at this hotel on weekends unless you are part of the wedding party or plan to stay up until early morning. The morning desk clerk said that they do have lots of weddings on weekends. The hotel could set some limits that would work for the wedding parties and other guests. If the attitude I experienced from the night manager is any indication, it seems that if management is aware they are not concerned. I would not return and if you read this you are warned in advance. If you stay at a resort hotel expecting to sleep, find a place other than the Bilmar Resort. It is not worth the hassle.

My friend and I stayed at the Bilmar October 28th - November 4th. We had a great time. The room was spacious and clean, overlooking the Gulf. We loved the fact that we had a refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot and stove. The sunsets were spectacular. We had no trouble parking in the lot and had a great room on the 6th floor. The staff at the front desk was peasant and very helpful, especially Stacey and Shauna. The hotel is near shopping and great restaurants. The walk to the water is a little long, but the beach is spotless. We found a lot of great shells. We would definitely stay here again because we had so much fun.

After reading the other reviews posted we thought this hotel would be great for our family. We were wrong! We booked this hotel for a five days and but we only stayed one night and went to find a different hotel it was so bad. I thought this hotel was horrible. Service was bad, the pool was small and you couldnt even see the sun or ocean, it was blocked by the hotel walls. The room was small, we had to park across the street in a walgreens thus meaning that we had to carry our luggae across a very busy street.. There also was a very loud bar right below our room with loud music and drunk people so we couldn't even sleep. My four kids thought this hotel was terriable and wanted to leave right away. I was very dissapointed. This is not a family hotel at all, i really don't understand why all the other reviews said this place was great. Seriously take my advice and find a different place!!!!

I apologize for the delay in posting this review, but I have to do this in honor of the fine folks who run the Bilmar. We stayed for 3 nights at the beginning of July, and the courtesy of the staff of the Bilmar made our jaws drop more than once. We have stayed in all kinds of time share, hotels, condos, etc. over the years (our 3 children are currently 11 to 21) - but in all of those stays, I have never witnessed such a commitment to making you feel welcome and at home as the folks at Bilmar provided. And you got the feeling that it is just "business as usual" for them. Simply impressive. Additionally, the room was clean (flat panel TV on wall, nice touch), ever so slightly small (it isn't like we went to stay in the room) - entire grounds were well kept & clean. Sloppy Joe's (attached to hotel) and Rikki T's (across street) provided great food (better at Joe's). Plenty to do in the area, without being overly commercialized. Very relaxing.
A tip of the hat to the staff though - the best I have seen in decades of travel!!

Bilmar far outweighed my expectations after seeing some of the reviews. My husband and I went for an anniversary trip August 17th-21st and had a wonderful time. The room we had, even though it was the efficiency room, was so nice. It was completely adequate for what we needed. It was fresh, clean, and nicely updated. The mini fridge and microwave were a nice addition. We went to the grocery store to buy cereal, milk, and sandwich stuff so that we could save some extra money. The walk to the beach wasn't too bad and the view every morning was spectacular. There was plenty to do in the area. The pool areas and the entire hotel was well maintained. The hotel was quieter than expected too.

We will go back if we ever get the chance. This was a nice place for a romantic get away for family. Highly recommended. It truly seemed that we had the best hotel on the beach.

  • Liked — It was very clean and well kept.

We just came back from staying at the Bilmar for a week (Aug. 11-17). We had a great time. The room was newly redecorated, clean and had a beautiful view of the Gulf. The room had the flat screeen TV, a kitchen area with a small sink, small refrigerator, two-burner stove, and microwave plus all utensils, dishes, pots and pans. We were in the tower and had a balcony. The front desk staff were friendly and the night person even gave me 50 cents when I didn't bring enough change for the dryer. Both the pools were clean and in working order. The only drawback is the long walk to the water, but that's the only thing (the exercise was good for us). We would definitely stay here again!
