“Great stay at the beach”
Reviewed June 1, 2013

We have stayed here twice in the past 2 years. The location is great. The beds are comfortable. the kitchens are great. The beach is beautiful, but it's a long way to the water (we knew this - we have been coming to this area for many years). The staff here are fantastic, from front desk to housekeeping to the waiters/bartenders. Our latest stay was Memorial Day weekend and there was a music festival on the beach. We were wondering how that would affect traffic, etc but it was all good!

Room Tip: The gulf front efficiency in the palms building or the gulf front deluxe in the beaches building wil...

We bought our rooms from Travelocity and weren't sure what we would get...but we were pleasantly surprised! Initially We had a great room with a great view but an "icky" placement directly above Sloppy Joe's...but after requesting a new room the front desk re-placed us in a room higher up and in a great part of the building!!! Super nice staff throughout the entire property....from valet to front desk to bell men...to housekeeping to bartending/wait staff.

We came in to the YANKEES game on Saturday night from Jacksonville Beach, Fl- We were going to watch the game and drive back home. Well, we heard about beautiful ( which is and understatment) Treasure Island and Tampa Bay- We drove over to check it out before we left -- and fell in love with the Tranquility - the water is so crystal clear and greenish blue you feel like you are in Paradise.
There are no smells or foul odors and the police keep it on lock down for all people acting crazy.

the resort is located directly across from great shops, eating and bars and walgreens and a gas station are conv. as well.
I was surprised when i opened the door to the room and there was a full size fridge with a freezer, over the stove microwave and regular size stove with a sink.. it had all the dishes includes ..

so bascially all you need is groceries and a great room and you dont have to spend anymoney eating out...

I will be making reservations to come back..
that was room # 110 -
I dont know about the other rooms, but if you want a very nice room and great view.. that is it.

now next i have to comment on the fella that was working the night shift.
i think his name is Pete - but i am terrible with names..
I just want to Thank The guy that worked that night we had traveled down to St Petes looking for a hotel when my daughter called and got ahold of him. He had this one room left available, and since it was Memorial Day weekend... there were no rooms.
He offered to hold the room till we got there .. he gave me a FL resident discount.

They have beach towels and a bar and restaruant right on the beach.

this is the best place ever.. :) you gotta try it

oh i might add as well that the cleaning staff are very nice. We over slept and woke up at 11:30 and the lady knocked on the door asked if we would like some more time and didnt rush us or keep knocking..

Room Tip: wonderful place any view is great. dont let the name " resort" make you change your mind t...

The staff is wonderful. Very friendly and quick to help in any way needed.
The room, clean, attractive but 3rd floor overlooking the unit air conditioners.
I suggest they have key cards to use the pool as intruders came from off the beach to swim. Was annoying with their belly flops. Smoking was also happening around the pool. When you pay top $ to stay, would like the pool better supervised.

Room Tip: Don't stay in room 347

Dear Soushi,

Thank you for staying at the Bilmar Beach Resort and for sharing your experience with your fellow travelers. While over 90% of our rooms have outstanding beach views I agree that the few near the lower floors by the restaurant do not always meet every guest’s expectation. We try to honor all view and floor requests we receive and would welcome the opportunity to place in a better location on a future visit. We have increased our “pool patrols” to ensure the comfort of our valued guests and take a very serious stance against non-guests entering the grounds. This year our pool policies changed to include no smoking in either of our two pool areas but your comments are a good reminder to me that I need to better inform our returning guests and enforce the policy for your comfort and safety. Thank you again for being our guest and I sincerely hope to have you back soon. Best regards, Clyde Smith – General Manager

Absolutely fabulous location to enjoy the Treasure Island beach area. Gorgeous sunsets from our balcony while thoroughly enjoying the jazz band below as we sipped our wine. A special thank you to Kim at the front desk who always has a smile, always ready be of assistance to guests & welcomes any questions regarding the resort or local sights & entertainment.
Our nephew required a wheelchair to enjoy the beach & they provided us with a spectacular chair on huge tire-like wheels that made it easy to navigate him through the sand. This was exceptional since our nephew's accident 3 years ago has left him partially paralyzed & this was so wonderful to enable him to enjoy the beach. We were able to get him right up to the water & he was ecstatic with joy! & so were we.
Suite was clean with all the necessities for a luxurious stay.
Only worry was lack of parking on the Bilmar property Fri & Sat nights if you arrive back after 12 midnight. We had to park on a lot across the street which made us feel slightly anxious about our vehicle. However, nothing happened to it so there must be a secure watch from Bilmar night security.

Room Tip: Room on west side, 2nd floor overlooking beach & close to bar so you can hear the jazz.

We've previously stayed in St Pete Beach and thought that was low key. Well, Treasure Island makes St Pete look like Vegas......It's wonderful. We chose The Bilmar Beach after reading other TA reviews and are so pleased that we did. We were checked in by the lovely April Love (what a great name) and our bags taken to our room by the chirpy Cody (apologies if I've mis-remembered your name) who offered to do a beer run for us. We had booked a Gulf Front Efficiency and were allocated room 218. As soon as we entered the room we had "the view". Wow.
Balcony framing the palm trees, palm trees framing the amazing, huge and almost empty beach and the water beyond. I'm still thinking about it 2 weeks after we've returned to the UK. The room was good sized with 2 queens, wall mounted flat screen with good range of stations, a couple of chairs and a chest of drawers in a cane/rattan style, kitchen area separated by breakfast bar and a couple of stools, had ceramic hob, microwave, full size fridge freezer and a range of crockery & utensils. Modern shower/tub combo and loo, separate dressing area with basin & mirror + wardrobe with full length mirror doors that also housed the safe, iron & board. The whole place was immaculately clean and looked recently redone, with daily maid service maintaining the standards. In fact that goes for The Bilmar as a whole, somewhere is always being cleaned, painted or otherwise maintained, but very discretely so as not to disturb the guests. There is a small fitness room with cross trainer, treadmill & a range of free weights, a laundry with 2 washers and 2 dryers, and ice machines in the stair/elevator areas and a couple of vending machines. Bazzies Beach Bar is accessed from either just off the pool or, as the name suggests, the beach and offers food from breakfast time 'till sundown + happy hour drinks + entertainment on some nights (Bradley was really good) and the food was really good too ! Great waiter with dry sense of humour and a tolerance to the British eating habits (Soooo, you want your salad served with your mains ?) Sloppy Joes' is attached to the hotel and was rammed every night. Food and service excellent, ate there 3 times and each time was made to feel wanted and special. The guests at The Bilmar ranged from 70's to folk with young families and everybody seemed to "fit", it has a really laid back atmosphere but you know that there's a lot of hard work going on behind the scenes to keep it that way. A stroll along the beach takes you to Johns Pass, with it's lifting bridge and re-creation of a sort of fishing port with shopping. It sounds a bit tacky but is actually well worth a visit plus it has a range of eateries serving fresh seafood and you can get up close and personal with the pelicans ! We loved The Bilmar and staff, and loved Treasure Island. It is what it is with no pretensions and we would love to return. Don't take our word for it, give it a try !

Room Tip: Gulf front every time

We went to Treasure Island to enjoy a romantic day at the beach - first time in the area so we relied strictly on the hotel's reviews. Area is an older community / older hotels.

First impression: As we drove up to the hotel, the colors on the Bilmar are an eye opener! It scared us a bit. A culture shock for us. If you are looking for the chic look of the Hyatt -- this isn't it. Reception area needs updating but staff was nice. We were skeptical but we checked in anyway. We were glad we did.

Room: We stayed in the Shells Building - ADA Gulf front on the first floor in the middle of the week. Room was average sized (it was an ADA room) - we had a king size bed which was very comfortable - plenty of pillows - furniture was in very good condition - very clean - tiled floors -- nicely decorated - offered same soap products offered at the Hyatt -- sliding doors to beach area -- flat screen but was not HD (we didn't care). It's an average hotel room but cleaner because of the tiled floors. Don't assume you will get a balcony area -- ask for one if you want one -- we didn't get one but didn't care. We were there only for the beach. Bathroom was roomy enough -- marble tiles in the shower - two showerheads (stationary and manual). Downside to room: bathroom does not have customary exhaust fans -- it has a little window you unlatch for ventilation.

Dining: Two restaurants on the property -- Bassie's was okay for breakfast - Sloppy Joes was pretty good for dinner.

Outdoors/Beach: There is a two mile strip of walkway behind the hotels which was awesome for early morning jog and late night stroll. It seems Bilmar has the biggest beach area of any of the hotels on that two mile strip. Plenty of chairs. We had the beach to ourselves both days -- no more than 10 people on the beach. We spent both days on the beach - pools looked okay but we didn't use either one of them. Great view of the sunset.

Staff: We were low maintenance so didn't need staff but we saw them cleaning throughout the day - beach was being combed throughout the morning. They upkeep the place pretty good.

Distance to Beach: It's about a 1/4 mile walk to the water for any hotel on that strip.

Crowd: 45+ - nice and quiet.

If I had the choice to stay at the neighboring hotels or this one - I would probably stay at this hotel again. All I need is a quiet and clean beach area, clean room with a comfortable bed, shower and a decent place to eat. We got that at the Bilmar without all the other amenities.

Price: Worth what we paid.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Shells Building (middle building) -- quieter than the others.
