Bilmar Beach Resort
Ranked #7 of 48 Hotels in Treasure Island
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 11, 2008

After comparing resorts and hotels at Treasure Island I decided to book the Bilmar. Nice hotel, nice lounge, gift shop and restaurant. It was not luxury but a good value. I will be booking at this location again for sisters that are coming to visit from the north. They will enjoy the beach and nearby John's Pass for shopping.

This was our second visit to the Bilmar during the holidays. We were there last year too. Noticed a number of improvements since our last visit. Front desk staff mentioned the new general manager, and how things are better since he came aboard.

Got a courtesy call from the front desk shortly after checking in. Nice. More importantly, staff responded within minutes to our call about a clogged toilet later in the trip.

We had a great room overlooking the beach and Gulf. Beach is the widest you'll find anywhere (see photo). Kiting big here and fun to watch young and old put on a show. Gulf was too cool for us but heated pool was available.

Resort restaurant is OK, but also try Sloppy Joe's on the other end of the property. Bilmar beach bar has a patio with a terrific sunset view. Music most evenings we were there.

Friendly and fairly priced. Hope to return again next year.

Our first night at the Bilmar was a nightmare. We were in a first floor room in one of the older buildings. the maid service was terrible and a group from T Mobile who were attending a convention decided to party all night in the room next to ours. The following day, we complained to the desk clerk, Shauna, who was very accommodating, and were moved to a fourth floor room in the same building. The room was approximately the same size, but painted all white and much pleasanter than the first floor room. The chambermaid, Lisa, was one of the nicest people we have ever met. Our room was kept clean and neat, and extra towels were left for us every day. She and the rest of the cleaning staff on that floor were very informative and recommended restaurants and shopping areas, and gave us information about the trolly system that travels from one end of the island to the other. She made our stay a wonderful experience, and we will be going back in May of 2008, and will request a room in her area. When we checked out, we gave Lisa a cash tip, which she tried very hard to refuse. She said she was just doing her job. I hope the hotel appreciates the positive feelings she gave us.

Stayed here for a quiet retreat over a long weekend. The hotel was recently redone and the room was beautiful. The staff at the front desk could not have been friendlier. Fabulous views of the beach & the gulf. I think it would have been a different environment during Spring Break, but you'd have to have different expectations during that time of year. All in all, it is a great location and the room was very nice and clean.

Fantastic location, right on the beach. I believe all rooms face the gulf. Room was clean. Staff was friendly and helpful. This isn't a high end hotel but is is nice. Some negatives: Most or all rooms open to outside hallway. One night I witnessed high street noise. The internet password printed in the room are wrong.

If you are looking for a terrific priced hotel right on the beach that is comfortable and clean this is the place for you.

We stayed at the Bilmar Beach Resort from Dec 8th to 15th, 2007. We had booked the double room in the 3 story building but on arrivale decided to upgrade to the tower for an extra $20.00 a night which has 8 stories and a balcony overlooking the ocean and huge beautiful white sand beach. The room had been completely updated a few years ago and was definitely above average for the price. It included a small fridge, stove, micowave, coffe maker, safe and just about everything you would need for the week. Granite counters in the bath and kitchen area and very spacious as well. The view is hard to beat with that perfect clean white sand that goes on forever. There are two pools, a hot tub and two reetsuarants, Sloppy Joe's and Bassie's. We ate at both once and Sloppy Joes was by far the best. The hotel location is dead centre of Treasure island, so you can walk to many restaurants and activities. The hotel is being convertaed - at least part, to a condo/hotel, so there are some units for sale in the mid $200,000 range. The buildings are about 40 plus years old and show the age in some areas, but mostly renoivated very nicely. for the price, this is a good place to stay. We were there at the slowest time and were able to park right out front, but I suspect when busy, you might have to park across the road - but still very close.
