First, let me say this will likely be a lengthy review. I know when I am traveling I take the time to do research on Trip Advisor and have found it helpful on many occasions. I am hoping my review will help others.
I went back and forth between a terrible and poor rating for this location. I decided on poor as there were a few redeeming qualities...mainly the location as it is right on the beach and walking distance to shops and restaurants. The staff were all friendly, helpful and accommodating and they can't control many of the issues we had with this location.
We stayed in two rooms during our visit. Room 230, which was a "studio" type room that had a small sitting area, kitchenette, sofa bed and separate room with two queen beds. This room provided us with a view of both the ocean and the pool area. This room was dark and dated. The dressers were old and chipping and the bathroom was very small. The tub looked to have been painted over and was chipping paint, therefore preventing the water from draining properly. There were 2 closets, which had no doors and a few hangers. There was an iron and ironing board. The kitchen area had a microwave and one cup coffee maker as well as a college size fridge. There weren't any supplies for the coffee maker in this room. A few nights later we moved to Room 232. This room was one room with a table and chairs, kitchenette area, college size and regular size fridge, king size bed and private balcony overlooking the beach. The bathroom in this room was a bit larger, but again, the tub looked as though it was painted over and chipping. The furniture was old and chipping as well and this room was also dark. In both rooms we had light switches that seemed to operate nothing. The doors in both rooms stuck and the doors did not easily unlock with the keys. The continental breakfast their website advertises was coffee. Room service was sporadic...some days our room was cleaned, some days it wasn't. Luckily we brought shower gel and shampoo with us as we did not receive replacements on some days. The beds in both rooms were ok, but not what you would expect from a "renovated" hotel.
PROS: Located right on the beach
Walking path between the hotel and the actual beach
Grounds are well maintained (I think that's where the renovation money was spent)
Pool area is nice (we did not have issues with people "saving chairs" as some have noted in their reviews, but I could see that happening)
Staff are all friendly and accommodating
Walking distance to shops and restaurants as well as John's Pass
There was a shuffleboard court, 2 BBQ Grills and a fire pit for guests to use (bring your own wood for the fire pit)
They offer a weekly rate discount (which is a cost savings if you choose to stay a week)
CONS: Rooms are still in need of renovation
Rooms very dark and need better lighting
Furniture old and chipping
Tubs painted over and chipping
Carpets need to be replaced
Room service sporadic
Room cleanliness sub-par (likely due to its current condition)
Bathrooms are small and dated
Rooms smell musty
Website does not correctly reflect current conditions
This hotel must still be continuing their renovations instead of being fully renovated as indicated on their website. Buyer beware...
