We stayed at Westwinds Waterfront Resort for 8 wks last winter and returned for a stay of 6 wks this winter. The 2b/2b condo we rented is lovely with all tiled floors, generous closet space and a large sliding glass door looking onto the beautifully landscaped patio overlooking Boca Ciega Bay; a lovely spot to eat lunch, fish, read a book, watch the wildlife or grill food on one of the two gas grills. We loved that we could walk just 550 steps to access beautiful Treasure Island beach; Publix was even closer for buying groceries.
We enjoyed the excellent restaurants within walking distance. However, we enjoy cooking and were frustrated by the lack of basic kitchen supplies and small appliances. To his great credit, the manager was always helpful in trying to meet our culinary needs. All in all, the accommodations were clean and attractive. Howevver, we respectfully suggest that condo owners with units under management by Westwinds be required to furnish their individual units with basic cooking, baking, microwave cookware, and small appliances (like egg beaters, blenders, etc.) for the convenience of both long and short term guests.
There are two international airports (St. Peterburg/ Clearwater and Tampa) within a 45 min. drive of the resort. T.I. has a lovely par-three-golf and Tennis facility. Access to the Pinellas Trail for biking is only a mile or two away. There is a Friday Market held every week in the park near Publix. The beach "boardwalk" was under construction for most of our 2013 stay, but it will be most enjoyable when it is finished.

Room Tip: Ground floor is very convenient, but there is some noise from the floor above. Ground floor is less private because of exposure to patio trafic. If you plan to cook, be sure to tell management what you expect in the way of kitchen "stuff".

Stayed there with 3 adults. Had a 2 bedroom, one bath condo which did not have any views at all other than the parking lot on both sides. The one bedroom had a king bed and tv, the 2nd bed was a queen size with no tv, which was a bit of a disappointment as we were all wanting to have our own privacy when enjoying down time in the room. The condo was very clean, spacious and the kitchen was new with some amentities including a blender. Bring your own hair dryer and extra towels or bathrobe as they do supply beach towels, but do not provide towels daily. The one thing apart from the tv was that there are no mirrors in any of the bedrooms. With 3 adults and one bath it would have been nice if there were mirrors in the bedrooms to allow others to do their hair and make-up while someone else could utilize the only bath. We did not use the pull out couch so not able to comment on how comfortable it may have been . The beds were comfy and many pillows as well as an extra blanket. As mentioned laundry service available. the pool is small but heated. The outdoor area is nice to sit out and watch the waterway. I would not stay here if I wanted a pool vacation as it just isnt meant for poolside lounging. No balconies on any of the rooms and many of the rooms did appear to be owned. I would stay here again because of the cleanliness and the amenities but next time I would prefer a place with a view, a balcony and a larger pool area for lounging (if the ocean is too cold to swim in). As mentioned in other reviews, Jimmy Dean was very friendly and checked in to make sure your needs were met. Publix is a short walk and has the best fried chicken around!!

Westwinds was well located for us since we attended two Philadelphia Phillies games. It allowed us to have a beautiful view of the water and have an easy drive to the stadium. Our condo had one bedroom and one bath. The bathroom is quite small, but the rest of the condo was roomy for two people. The view from the living room window was fantastic. We saw dolphin, pelican and egrets. Had a relaxing week. Jimmy Dean is very attentive to problems. Not fancy but very comfortable.

I went down to visit my college daughter hoping to give her some home cooking she longed to have. The room was certainly clean, updated, roomy, and had all the TOOLS for cooking, but there was not so much as a salt and pepper shaker. There was a coffee maker with a couple of days worth of coffee, but no filters?! I was only staying for a few days, and the thought of getting foil, cooking spray, coffee filters, and the usual things I have found in condos was daunting, so I didn't end up having anything more than snacks.

On the definite plus side, the room appeared to be recently renovated and everything was new, clean and in great shape and the complex has quite a few washers and dryers that are free for guests, brand new and very nice models, so I did her laundry. We hung out by the heated pool, made the easy walk to the beach (wide beach), walked to the Publix and Walgreens a few doors down, and found the nearby amenities great. The complex also has 2 elevators so you don't have to worry about hauling luggage up the stairs.

We had free parking, and though they didn't tell us, we learned there was a cart full of beach equipment for guests to use - chairs, boogie boards, kids toys and such. The staff was great to work with, have beach towels at request, and overall I found place to be a good value.

Maybe slightly on the downside - for a couple of nights we were there, some kids were next door and I could tell the walls weren't exactly well insulated to sound. I do think what an earlier reviewer said that this looked like a Motel from the outside might have been true at one time, and the soundproofing is like what you have in a mid-grade hotel. Otherwise, much, much better if you don't intend to cook.

Note to those who have business in St. Pete - it is a bit of a drive if you go there every day. Not terrible, but takes maybe 20-25 minutes to get there.

Room Tip: The room we chose had a queen size bed, so if you need larger, ask if such is available. I think there are a variety of accommodations. Though they all say "water view", some are a 90 degree angle view, while others are actually overlooking the bay and walk right out to the patio by the pool, and on the 3rd floor, some rooms will have a view of the sunset over the beach (from across the street, but you can definitely see the sunset).

Westwinds was a good value, clean and well appointed. The outside looks a tiny bit motel-ish but the inside makes up for it. The pool is small, the access to the bay is nice - the beach is easily accessed across the street. The staff was helpful. You also get access to a nearby full gym as well as the local country club. Treasure Island as a whole is a bit "old florida" run down and touristy but teh Westwinds is a good choice for that area.
