When I travel, I frequently stay ay Hilton owned properties because I know what I am getting; clean, comfortable rooms and above average service. So, when I took a trip to Tampa this past weekend it was a no-brainer.

Our stay started out great. When we arrived, be were greeted by the friendly front desk clerk who checked us in and even gave us complimentary bottles of water from their well-stocked pantry. She even called a cab to take us to the Hard Rock Casino. We got back late and had a good night’s rest.

But, then the Sun came up.

The free continental breakfast was a little on the skimpy side, but that was really no big deal as we usually only grab some fresh coffee (and it was) on our way out the door. That, however, was the last bright spot of our stay.

When we arrived back at the hotel later that evening, we found the hotel lobby overrun by unsupervised children who were supposed to be attending a rather loud party in one of the hotels event rooms. When my travelling companions went upstairs they found that their room had been locked out due to a credit card mix up at check-in. When we went down to ask the front desk what the problem was, the staff (not the same people as the night before) responded in a very rude and condescending manner, with one of the clerks even laughing at us. The clerk at the desk claimed to have tried to contact us all day about this, but no one attempted to reach us on our cell phones (we had provided the numbers when the reservation was made and they verified that they did have the correct numbers on record) and no message was left in either of the rooms we were staying in. After getting the issued resolved with the begrudging little help the staff managed to provide, we headed back up to our rooms to try and salvage the rest of our stay.

But, it was not to be.

Someone at the hotel thought it would be a good idea to rent the room right next door to mine (and right across the hall from my travelling companions) out to some underage teenagers who decided it was a good time to get drunk, have sex and run up and down the halls and the stairways. All night long. The front desk clerks even had the nerve to call my room up and tell me to keep the noise down as they were getting complaints for other guests. When I told the clerk where and what room number all the noise was coming from, the clerk sent someone else up to my room to tell me to keep the noise down (since the teenagers didn’t open their door when he knocked, he must have assumed that there was no one in there and that there was no way all of that noise could be coming from that room).
Well, the Girls Gone Wild must have passed out or gone down to the pool or a room they had on another floor for a little while, but they were up and back at it again around 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. When we went out into the hallway to see where all of the noise was coming from, we saw one teenage girl dragging another passed-out teenage girl by the arm toward the closest stairwell, their room trashed (they had left the door propped open) and another girl passed out in the room with her dress lifted over her head. When we called and told the front desk about this and suggested that they call the police about this they refused to do so, but said we could call the police if we wished.

They must have gotten security or someone to either calm down or evict their teenage guests because it was quiet for what was left of the morning and we able to get a few hours sleep before the mass exodus of guests (who apparently demanded refunds because of all of the noise) woke us up around 6:00 a.m.

As far as the room went, the mattress was a little too firm and the air conditioner/heating unit was a little on the noisy side, but those type of things aren’t anything to get too worked up about. The smoke alarm, however, is situated too close to the bathroom door and the steam from the shower would set it off (and no one from the front desk even called up to ask about it).

I have never been treated as rudely or have had such an awful night’s stay in any hotel, let alone one from the Hilton brand. I would suggest that the Hilton Corporations perform a Management shake-up and/or invest some serious dollars into some intensive hospitality training for The Hilton Garden Inn of Tampa North.

Friendliest staff who go out of their way to help. We have been here for several weeks as we're close to medical care we need. The staff has gone out of their way to be at our service in any way they can. We use the free shuttle service daily and the full breakfast is great. We also take advantage of the free wifi. Coffee is always on the go and freshly baked cookies are on offer in the evenings. We can walk to a park close by where we can rent canoes or kayaks, and there are a few restaurants within walking distance. The shuttle service will take you to MOSI, Busch Gardens, restaurants or shopping.

Room Tip: Some rooms overlook a nature area, so get a room above 2. The windows open so we never use the AC.

Stayed for four nights after our cruise which docked in Tampa, and although situated a little off the beaten track, it does provide a shuttle bus service which takes you to locations within a five mile radius if you do not have a car. Hotel itself is extremely clean with all modern amenities and the only real criticism, as mentioned in other reviews, was the noisy air-conditioning in the bedroom, although given the high temperatures outside, it was very much welcomed! Staff were extremely pleasant and cheerful and a credit to the Hilton name. Pool area small but provided a bonus in the early evening before dinner in the "American Grill" where the food was excellent (both breakfast and dinner) and where bar staff, chef, waiter/waitresses again proved very friendly and a real pleasure to meet. Would not hesitate to stay here again, although if you are looking for a more central hotel then perhaps this may not suit. For us, however, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and our time in Florida with such lovely American people. Thank you.
