If you want to experience the upper Keys as they are meant to be, then you should stay here. Mike and Carol have truly outdone themselves when they took over this place. Every attention to detail has been made - from the bed linens to the decor' that is unique for each room, everything is perfect. This resort is also a good value. It is very hard to find nice places that have all this and a kitchen!

We stayed in the Bahia Honda room #5 and it was very upscale compared to many places we have stayed. Each room here has a small kitchen and a nice large shower. A nice touch was an automatic light/fan that comes on when you step into the shower. Almost all the lighting in the rooms and around the property is either cfl or solar powered. There are even recycle bins for your "beverage" containers. They are very eco-friendly here!

The beach and dock areas are spotless and there are plenty of comfy places to read a book or sunbathe. (watch out for falling coconuts!) You can borrow a kyak - we just didn't get around to it. Every room has it's own porch with chairs and umbrella so that is where we did all of our eating. There was even a kitty named Wahoo who managed to get into my lap every night while we were eating.

This is "old" Florida Keys style and is a great place to stay while visiting Pennekamp park or Theater of the Sea only minutes away. By the way - the snorkling is better at Pennekamp than down in Key West - you get more water time with less people and less cost.

When all goes well it is one thing…it is when things hit the fan and go terribly wrong that superior owners prove themselves. Do not try this at home or abroad. My partner’s 80th birthday trip to Florida was supposed to end at Island Bay Resort…highly touted by everyone at Trip Advisor. It is all that everyone said it would be:
The unit was unique and we were greeted by a welcome basket of champagne, key lime macaroons, and a hand made birthday card. The private beach was really private…we shared it with a blue heron. Everything in the décor was so well thought out. It was perfect.

Then on the first night I fell in the bathroom. I have Parkinson’s disease and am not steady on my feet. At 12:30 AM I had to call for directions to the ice machine. Carol (the owner) said she would personally bring me down some ice from her refrigerator in a plastic bag… and that was just the beginning.

The next day we unpacked and drove to Key West “for the day.” We were there for 15 minutes when my partner turned to warn me of an irregular drop off and promptly dropped off. She said she heard the bones in her leg break when she hit the street. Two derelicts were the first to come forward. The man held the back of her head out of the gutter and the woman stood in the sun so she was in her shade They did what they could.

We were in the Lower Keys Hospital for the next 7 days with our papers and luggage strewn all over our digs at Island Bay Resort over 100 miles away. This is where Mike and Carol came to our rescue again. They packed all of our belongings and somehow (I’ll never pack that heavily again) got our luggage to UPS to be sent home. All my papers they sent separately to me because they thought I might need them. My medications (of course I didn’t have them, we were only to be gone for the day) they sent special delivery to the hospital. I don’t think my neighbors at home could have figured all this out let alone made it come to pass let alone lifted my suitcase.

If there is some kind of good Samaritan award, beyond the call of duty award, superior inn-keeper award they should receive it hands down. Thank you, Carol and Mike, for not only having a wonderful place to stay but for being the wonderful people you are. And they even invited us back!!!!

This is a great place to stay if you enjoy quietness, sunsets, beach and barbecues. If you prefer luxury stays you might be disappointed with the rooms widith or furniture. These ara exclusive holidays but in a completely different way.
The sea view from our room bedroom and the sunsets at the porch are fantastic.
There are no room service but the owners can advice you the best places to have your meals.
I'm sure we will return.

Just returned from a 4-night stay here and it was all we hoped for and more based on previous reviews. We stayed in the Conch Key unit #7. The attention to detail was evident throughout the unit with plenty of places to stow away clothing, well-placed wall outlets and a tasteful shell-themed decor. We took advantage of the WiFi provided in the unit and used the small portable cooler (located under the kitchen sink) to keep our bottled water cold while enjoying their beach sitting underneath one of the tiki huts. Enjoyed taking their single ocean (sit-on-top type) kayak out into the bay. The kitchen covered just about all your needs including a coffeemaker and filters, toaster, tea kettle, microwave oven, refrigerator/freezer, cutting board, can opener, nutcracker, corkscrew, 2 saucepans, frying pan, Dutch oven, roll of paper towels, dish detergent, and utensils. We really appreciated the booklet that Mike and Carol developed and left in our room that was filled with information on restaurants and places of interest they have been to and recommend. We felt even more at home interacting with Mike and Carol's adopted cats as we are cat people, too.

Did the usual thorough research on Trip Advisor to find the perfect place to stay in the Upper Keys. Island Bay Resort came highly recommended so we booked our stay with them. The resort is quite compact, but the owners have managed to squeeze a whole lot of vacation happiness into such a small slice of Florida. The recently renovated cottages are clean and bright, the beach is perfect for swimming, amazing sunsets and the location is perfect!

We have already booked a longer stay for 2010 - looking forward to returning!

The second week of our Florida based honeymoon was spent at this wonderful little resort. The hosts were extremely friendly without being intrusive, accommodation (We had the wonderful Key West Cottage) was basic but had everything you would expect, was clean and comfortable.

This was a great location to base out of for exploring the Keys, the sunset here was much better than the one at Key West, in fact many nights we took dinner early to ensure we were back for sunset!

Lots of wonderful restaurant in the vicinity food here is a big change from the "fast food" of Orlando, if you like fish you're going to be in heaven. I would say they range from medium to expensive but they are worth the money.

In summary an absolutely wonderful place we would strongly recommend.
