We had a fantastic stay at the Island Bay Resort. It is a very quiet and tranquil place to stay in the Keys. In my opinion, it is often the little things that make the difference between a good stay somewhere and an amazing one...and Mike and Carol have set the bar high. Their attention to detail is amazing and their tips and information about local attractions were spot on. We will definitely be back!

The previous reviews mentioned many aspects of the property quite accurately. I only add a few of my opinions to reinforce and reflect our experience.
I had initially emailed regarding a two night stay and the reply was that they have a three night minimum. This is not mentioned on their webpage. As this property is small and privately owned, this is the owners discretion I suppose. Fortunately, we were able to change our plans to stay the required three nights.
The 10 cottage property so immaculate - I am talking meticulous. The the decor is island themed and may seem a little cluttered. The hosts are wonderful - very helpful with restaurants and activities. The beach and chairs are great. However, the water was not inviting. I was not inclined to go swimming or snorkeling as it was quite murky.
The cottage was a good size for the two of us. The bed was very comfortable and kitchen was practical.
We did spent an entire day day hanging around at the resort doing blissfully nothing. The resort is very quiet and relaxing. Bring a good book and find a hammock. This is the restful vacation spot you have been looking for.

Room Tip: Lowest number rooms are closer to the beach - but every room is less then a minute walk to the sand.

We had a delayed honeymoon planned this December and we booked IBR after reading the reviews here. The resort met our expectations to the fullest. We even had some surprises... Christmas decorations, Chocolate boxes and the lights! Overall, it is a beautiful place for a honeymoon and we loved it here. But for the rainy weather, our stay was
incredible. Thanks to Carol and Mike for the personalized care. We'll definitely return next year!

This was our fifth experience at Island Bay and not our last! Each time is unique and beautiful. It is amazing to see the changes that Mike and Carol, the incredible owners, have made over the years. There is so much attention to detail! Our cottage was decorated with island theme and the bed was so comfortable. My favorite, are the tasteful vignettes tucked away on the marvelous beach for reading, relaxing or sitting with a loved one. Also, plenty of activities to keep you busy, snorkeling, kayaking, and more. Don't miss the fabulous sunsets!

Room Tip: We have stayed in the smaller rooms and it is very comfortable, however the last couple of years we o...

OK, read all the other reviews. They are accurate and descriptive, This place is a 5-Star oasis of tranquility along US 1 in Tavernier. Mike and Carol Shipley are wonderful hosts and very thoughtful folks. They will give you the best information about local attractions to insure your holiday is a happy one. The resort is conveniently located to stores, restaurants, dive shops, fishing outfitters.... We are Floridians who appreciate the beauty of the Sunshine State and wouldn't go any where else when we are in the Keys. Just remember, though, you are in the Keys --- bring your bug spray!

Room Tip: Every room is unique. All the rooms are good and extremely well maintained.

This place is just incredible. It is everything we heard it was (in all the other reviews) and more!! When you arrive, you are greeted by the warm and friendly owners, Mike and Carol. They are always available to answer questions or share information but never intrusive. Our cottage was spotless and the bed very comfortable. All the cottages are just a few steps to the private beach. You will find very comfortable loungers with umbrellas and tables on the beach and hammocks strung between trees. There are also several cute Tiki Huts. It was just a little piece of paradise, very laid back and cozy. The attention to detail is just amazing, even their sandy beach was freshly raked each day! It seemed every time we turned around, we were noticing for the first time, another detail we had initially overlooked! Although we only stayed 2 nights we were able to kayak, play bocce ball, read and try out the hammocks! Next time, and I am definitely planning a next time, we will stay longer. We did eat dinner at Snappers one night. Carol recommended it and we would definitely head back there as well.

Just spent a week at this gorgeous resort. All the rooms are cottages decorated in different island motifs, and all beautifully done. Compact kitchens in all with some having separate living area from the bedroom-- you never have to leave if you don't want to, all you need I'd available.
A private beach with lovely furniture for relaxing, kayaks at your disposal, outdoor games but most of all great hosts who truly know how to help you have a wonderful vacation. It's 4degrees below zero in Chicago---why oh why did I ever leave.
Make sure you see the sunset, they have the perfect view.

Room Tip: All the rooms are gorgeous, lower numbers are closer to the beach, higher numbers have extra room, the...
