“Fantastic Greek Food”
Reviewed February 14, 2013

"The Original Mama Maria Maria's Greek Cuisine" is a mouthful to say but you'll want a mouthful of their food. True Greek dishes and wonderful seafood are our favorites. The service is pleasant, perhaps a little kinder to regulars than to tourists but that's okay. The atmosphere is standard casual. Don't confuse this establishment with "Mama's Greek" (although also good), this is the original and the best.

“Excellent Authentic Greek Cuisine”
Reviewed December 25, 2012

Mama Maria's is one of many Greek restaurants in Tarpon Springs. We tried a few of them and this one was definitely the best. The food portions were enormous. The food was delicious. We had the sampler platter and shared it. Service was good, but we seemed to have 2 different waitresses so it was confusing. We will definitely be back for the saganaki, keftedes, and delicious gyros meat!

“Worth a stop!”
Reviewed December 25, 2012

My husband and I had never been to Tarpon Springs and as we were on an exploration of Florida's back roads decided to stop by. We drove through the city and the sponge boat dock area there and as it was almost dinner time and we were hungry we started looking for a good place to eat. We were looking for another restaurant we saw advertised but when I saw Mama Maria's we decided to stop there to try it out. We were not disappointed. This is authentic, delicious Greek food interspersed with the fresh seafood specials they have. My husband had the stuffed grape leaves and I had chicken souvlaki (spelling?). They offered very generous servings and the food was fantastic. It has a nice, casual atmosphere with a large room for parties which was being set up when we arrived for someone's Christmas party. You must pay a visit here if you visit Tarpon Springs!

“Don't miss this place!”
Reviewed December 13, 2012

We had a little trouble finding the place -- our GPS didn't recognize 503 Alt.19n. It's at 503 N. Pinella. When we finally found the place, we felt as if we had found new friends. Everybody was so warm and welcoming And the food? Terrific! We started out with saganaki, Greek goat cheese fried, then flamed with brandy -- culinary fireworks: dramatic and delicious. An appetizer order of taramasalata (cod roe whipped with oil and bread) was served with pita chips, and was mild and tasty. .Avgolemono soup was fine, as was a side Caesar salad. A falling-off-the-bone-tender lamb shank in a tomato-laced sauce came with a side of pasta. But the star of the show was the grilled octopus, which one of the owners suggested dipping in the remaining tarama -- a great suggestion. A glass of the Greek wine, Retsina, was much less uvula-ripping than we're accustomed to, and was actually quite pleasant. Desserts of galactoboureko and baklava finished our meal and nearly finished us. The menu is so full of tempting selections, and we'd like to return with a crowd to taste some of the other offerings and share them around the table. And for now? I can't believe I ate the whole thing!!!!
