Spent three enjoyable at the museum on the college campus. Interesting modern art by two artists, in a very nice museum. Very stylish art glass collection that was well displayed. Grounds of museum a great place to have a picnic.

“Nice Art Museum”
Reviewed February 26, 2013

We went to the museum in January for a private showing of the Minature Art Society of Florida's annual show. This is the second time that we have been there, for the same reason. The minature art displayed is always outstanding. It is unbelievable the details that the artists from all over the world (mainly the US) can portray in a small (2" x 3" sometimes smaller) painting. They use all different medias (watercolor, oil, pencil, pastel & 3 dimensional sculptures). We did not have enough time to really visit the rest of the museum. What we saw on the first floor was nice and the shop had a lot of interesting articles for sale.

“A jewel of a museum”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

This is a newish museum (opened 2001, I believe). Right now, there is the WORLD'S LARGEST exhibition of miniature paintings. You would not believe how much can be put into postage-stamp-sized paintings, as well as those no bigger than half a postcard. Most on paper, but some on lacquer, or other supports. We went in late January, and there were three painters actually demonstrating their art. There are thousands of tiny, beauifully framed paintings on display. In the permanent collection, there are many paintings (two galleries) by Abraham Rattner, an artist I was not familiar with, but who really impressed us (and we have been to hundreds of art museums all over the world). There is a small gallery of studio glass, including some by the world-famous Dale Chihuly. In addition, there is an exhibition (one gallery each) of some of the paintings and sculptures of Esther Gentle, and her sone, Allen Leepa. All very rewarding to a viewer willing to expose him/herself to modern art. Lastly, there is an authorized copy of Picasso's impressive anti-war "Guernica" painting, which refers to the Nazi bombing of the ancient town of Guernica, in Spain's Basque Country. Parking is free and close by; admission fees are very reasonable; staff are friendly, and there is a good boutique, offering all kinds of artistic products.

“Well-known but small”
Reviewed January 13, 2013

This museum is dedicated to local artists and its line-up reflects that vision. It has decent exhibits but isn't worth a trip just to see it. If you're visiting the sponge docks in Tarpon Springs, it's worth going in to see.
