“Great hotel for the money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 7, 2012

We found this hotel met our needs well, was in a good location and came at a great price. Our room was clean and comfortable on arrival and the housekeeping staff kept it that way during our 5 day stay. The view of the Bay from the balcony was a plus. The only down side to the room was the air conditioning unit which was loud and had to be turned on and off to keep the climate in the room even.
For the reasonable price of the room we were pleasantly surprised to have a decent restaurant attached to the hotel. We ate at Crabby Bill's three times and thought the food was good and the price fair. We loved the convenience of having a real restaurant on grounds. There also is an exercise room with plenty of equipment and TV's to have a comfortable workout.
The hotel was near the airport and with our rental car sightseeing was easy.
We would stay here again when coming to Tampa as the hotel was a good value for the money.

I was welcomed nicely. The lobby was nice. I was on the fourth floor with a balcony. It was beautiful and very comfy. It was great watching three osprey eagles diving into the bay and flying out with fish in their talons. The sliding glass door stuck but a staff member was there in less than five minutes. It was three miles from the airport which was a plus. It also has Crabby Bills on the property which provided great stone crab claws.

The hotel was a very nice place to stay for us in October 2012. The lobby is clean and spacious with a very helpful staff at the front desk. Our room was clean and well-appointed. There is a small balcony which was wonderful for enjoying the Florida breezes. We did not attend the restaurant on site, Crabby Bills, but did hear from those that did go there that the food was very disappointng. We attended an event in one of the banquet rooms and thought it was a terrific room with large windows overlooking Tampa Bay. I would highly recommend this venue for an event. Ours happened to be a wedding anniversary. The staff that worked in the banquet room area were right there with answers to questions and prompt service.

Room Tip: You can have a choce of rooms overlooking the parking lot or the water. We overlooked the parking l...

You cannot beat the view of the sunsets at the end of hard day of work. Even though the hotel is a bit older - the friendly staff and location of the hotel make it a GREAT BARGAIN while working on the road.

There are many restaurants close by - even one right in the hotel that has very fresh fish - it's called CRABBY BILLS. Even the locals come here for their fix of fish and a beach game of volleyball, so quite an eclectic crowd gathers here.

Overall> if you have to stay convenient to the airport/ westshore part of Tampa. This is my first choice for value and good service!!!

This hotel was honestly nicer than I thought it would be. It was a great location for us. It's easy to get to and find. We had things to do in both Tampa and Clearwater Beach, and this was convenient to both. The bed was very comfortable. The coffee in the room was actually pretty good, which usually it's not! I should have splurged for the bay view room, but they have nice spots to sit and watch the sunset outside, even if you don't. We ate at Crabby Bill's, which is adjacent, and they had a nice happy hour and good food. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: Get the bay view room if you are going to spend any time at the hotel besides to sleep!

Arriving into Tampa at Tampa international airport this hotel is nice and easy to find and just out on the 60 towards Clear Water. There is a free shuttle bus from the airport or if you drive there is free parking in the hotel car park, you will need a permit from reception, we were asked how we arrived a permit was provided. We were out every day and although some days there was more choice on where we would park there was always plenty of parking spaces. Check in was simple and everything was explained to us quickly and informatively.

The decor in the hotel is a little dated but it is extremely clean and well looked after. We got into our room and everything was great. Small bathroom with the usual facilities and a Husky sized fridge, enough room for us to fit two bottles of fizzy drink, milk and orange juice. Another nice feature was a good coffee machine, in the mornings there is free coffee in the foyer of the hotel but to have a filter coffee machine (disposable filters, 4 provided each day) was a great bonus.

Two double beds adorned the room with a wardrobe and a chest a drawers (plenty of storage space for us). The room has a phone as well as an internet access point, this provided an ethernet connection if required but also wireless signal was strong throughout the hotel and room. There were plenty of power outlets available around the room including on the desk for a laptop. The room also had large TV ~37" the picture quality was not great (coming through a coax) but the channel choice was good. Shame the local sports were blacked out, obviously this is outside the hotels control.

The air conditioning in the room was very efficient although a little loud when running. We found it so good that we did not have to have it on for long though. We had a balcony looking out over the bay with two chairs and a small table. The balcony is open to the side so you don't get any privacy on there but it was still lovely.

The room was cleaned daily and to a high standard. There was a laundry service although we did not use it, also room service was available from the restaurant but again we did not make use of it. We did have a number of take away menus come under the door and we ordered from one of them once night. Nice and easy and the hotel staff handled it well.

We swam in the pool most mornings as we were out and about in the day and it was cleaned in the morning prior to being available for guests at 8am. The hotel seemed quiet while we were there and so the pool was quiet too, never more than about 5 or 6 people in it. Loungers or tables were always available around the pool. There is also a nice jetty / pier that extends into the bay with seating.

The hotel provides two computers with a printer that guests can use. Both times I wanted to use them they were available. I used them to check in to the flight home and print the boarding passes. They were easy to use and there was plenty of paper available in the printer. Coffee and water are provided in the foyer in the morning / afternoon we had some of the coffee in the morning and it was nice.

There is a small shop on site where we bought some postcards, ice creams and some bite cream. All of this was easy and the prices seemed fair. The staff were nice and remembered that we had bought bite cream enquiring about how we were getting on when we passed them in the corridor the next day. The shop does not sell stamps and we were told to ask at the front desk, their machine was broken, however, the staff were quick to give us advice as to where we could buy some from locally or around where we were heading for the day.

There is a room on site that has some vending machines. There was also an ice machine that was out of order for the length of our stay (I suspect it had been for a while and didn't get the impression it would be fixed any time soon) this room also had leaflets for local events / attractions. We already knew what we would be doing but a number of them did provide money off admission, so worth a look.

The on site restaurant seemed nice enough, we only ate breakfast there once. On the weekend it is a buffet arrangement while in the week it is off the menu ordering. We went on a Saturday and although the food was OK it could have been a little nicer. The restaurant is really easy to access from the pool or through the hotel corridors.

Room Tip: I had a room with two double beds on the bay side of the hotel and would recommend that to anyone. T...

Word of advice....if your travelling to this hotel from the outside of USA, for your own sanity, call them and confirm your booking!!! the admin is somewhat...a Mess!? We had a 10hr flight and arrived tired, the staff could not find our booking so basically wrote us off and ignored us! they were both unhelpful and rude. Claudette who works there was amazing and sorted out the whole mess for us. The rooms smell musky, and the carpet is somewhat old and dated. but it appeared clean. Maintenance is not standard, fast dripping tap, bulbs gone, and screw sticking through headboard that could have been nasty,AC were noisy and hard to get correct climate, wondered why housekeeping did not pick up on these faults? Lifts old and sometimes slow with a suspect burning smell? Breakfast were ok....nothing special though. OK for one night, but no more. the view were breathtaking, but cant say more than that.

Room Tip: Ask for harbour bay view, floors 2-4 better, or you will be facing a carpark!
