“Great Hotel”
Reviewed July 6, 2012

My husband and I stayed 1st - 5th of July. Great motel paid little extra for water view room worth every penny. Saw dolphins in the bay on evening of the 4th and fireworks all across bay area. Just great way to close out our trip. Good location for visiting Clearwater and St. Petersburg as well as the beaches. If return to Tampa hope to stay here. Crabby Bill's adjoining motel is a plus.

Room Tip: Ask for room with water view you will not be disappointed.

This is a very nice hotel. The room was clean as was the pool which was a good size and close to the bar/restaurant next door. We got the bay side room which had a great view. Be waned, there is no beach access from this hotel. It's a bit of a hike to get to the beach even though the hotel is right on the water.

Room Tip: Pick the bay side rooms.

This was a great hotel for the price, no breakfast included but the sunset from our room was worth it. Close to restaurants and beaches.

Room Tip: The view on the bay side can't be beat.

From our 13 year old grandson to our 92 year old grandma, it was unimanious. We all liked the view, the location, the dock, the rooms, the beds, the quietness and the price. We had three rooms and they were all perfect for the price. The restaurant was closed temporarily but the bar stayed open. Cable was pretty limited, the place is not brand new but you just can't beat the price for what you get.

Got forced to stay for two days in June due to arrangements made by others for a reunion.

Mostly bad experiences from the time we arrived, including during the stay and at checkout.
Hotel oversold hotel oversold rooms would not put us in the room we reservered
Fortunately the room we received was easy to locate due to the 3x3 carpet stain on the hallway carpet in front of our room.
Morning of second day made the mistake of trying the complementary coffee. Did not know we were under wartime rations and hotel required to used burnt charcoal to make coffee. Like how do you ruin coffee? Don't know what they did, but truly undrinkable-as stated by multiple guests.
Afternoon of second day made the mistake of walking down to front desk and asking for a box of Kleenex, since box in room was empty. Was told that housekeeping would bring up a box. 25 minutes later I called the front desk and was told that no one at the front desk had been able to ask house keeping to bring the box, because housekeeping employee only speaks Spanish and front desk staff only speaks English.
Checkout was something of a third world experience. It was raining as Tropical Storm Debby was over the TampaBay area. The hotel driver parked/left the hotel shuttle under the covered pickup lane and blocked everyone from being able to load up without being in rain. When I went inside and found the driver, sitting in a back room reading a newspaper, I asked him to move the van so we/others could load the van without getting wet. The driver's answer was "no that is how we do it here and you have to get wet"

We stayed one night here on our way to south Florida. The view of Tampa Bay from the balconies is incredible.
The room was decorated nicely and seemed to be very clean. One strange thing is that the fridge and coffee maker were in the bathroom. Knowing that toothbrushes should be kept at least ten feet from a toilet, you can bet I was not about to use that coffee maker. Eeewww. Thankfully, the free coffee in the lobby in the mornings was pretty good.
The rooms are non-smoking, but the balconies are not. Ashtrays are provided on each balcony. The problem with this is that all balconies are joined and only separated by a railing. If someone is smoking on a balcony, everyone on a balcony or whose balcony door is open, smells it. And since so many people must go out to smoke and leave the balcony door open, the rooms and linens stink of old smoke. Air freshener had been sprayed to cover the odor, but it didn't work. The smoke stink was strong enough that my son and I both woke up with headaches from it.
My other issue was with breakfast. When we went to dinner on Friday night, I asked a manager for a breakfast menu to determine if we'd eat here the next morning. He got me a menu that, while limited, had choices that appealed to us at reasonable prices. However, when we went down the next morning, we were told that menu items were not available and our only choice was the "buffet." Why didn't a MANAGER know this and let me know? We certainly would have made other breakfast plans. "Buffet" is in quotes because it was a pitiful excuse for a buffet. There was a waffle iron and batter so you can make your own waffles - just like you do for free at a Hampton Inn. There was bread and a toaster so you could make your own toast. There was greasy bacon and sausage that was too cold, even though it had a flame under the dish. The eggs had a strange taste and were dried out and gross. And that's it on the buffet. Three pre-cooked items and two that you cook yourself. Buffet, yeah, right.
I was nauseated for two hours after eating this nasty breakfast. And - for the privilege of having to cook our own waffles - the price was $2 more than what I would have ordered from the menu.
I expressed my displeasure to the waitress and the person who checked me out of the hotel. No adjustment was made to the bill and nothing was offered to make it better. We spent $28 for two adults and a child for breakfast that I HAD TO COOK and LEFT ME NAUSEATED. All of that could have been avoided if the manager the night before had told me it would be a buffet instead of just handing me a menu on a Friday night that has items only available on weekdays.
If you smoke and don't eat breakfast, I think this hotel would be great for you. But with the stench in the rooms and linens and the disgusting breakfast experience, we will never be back. Ever.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the bay have a beautiful view. Just be aware that there is a bar nearby on the bay...

Upon arriving here, our room was dirty as if it had not been cleaned. The sliding patio door did not lock. We had to be moved to another room. The bathroom was filthy. Was supposed to have a fridge in the room and it did not. They had to go get one from another room. The swimming pool was out of order. We left to spend the night in Orlando and when we came back to our Bay Harbor room, it had not even been cleaned! The roof was leaking and the staff was not friendly. Overall, this was a bad experience. If you are planning on spending your vacation in Tampa, don't stay here. The best thing about staying here was Crabby Bill's which is connected to the hotel.

Room Tip: Don't stay here!
