“One night - pre cruise - April 2012”
Reviewed June 10, 2012

A friend of mine who is an airline employee often stays at this hotel when on a layover in Tampa. He advised me (I had already made the reservation without knowing he often stays here) of what to expect etc, which was of great help regarding noise, location, quality etc.

Having driven over from Orlando, we did have one or two problems finding the hotel. It was our own fault, as we turned off the highway one set of stop lights too early! Even a hotel car park security guard at another hotel advised us that he did not know of the BW Bay Harbor! However, we spotted the sign and had no problem from then on.

Check-in had a queue of approx 6 persons, yet only one member of staff was working at the reception desk. A 2nd member of staff did appear, but didnt help anyone immediately. On realising that we were not all in one party, he did apologise and started checking other clients in.

I had emailed the hotel in advance requesting (but knowing NO guarantee) for a quiet bay view room, and did receive a courteous acknowledgment in return. We were allocated a room on the 1st floor but next to the lift, which did clank a noise somewhat, but it wasnt annoying enough to complain about.

The room was obviously upgraded, and was clean and tidy. Like other reviews, I was surprised to see soap and shampoo dispensers in the bathroom - but realised this was for 'eco' reasons. I was also surprised to see the fridge/coffee making facilities in the bathroom - in the UK, electrical items like this would not be allowed.

There is a beach bar approx 50 yds across from the hotel bay side - and that evening their was a wedding reception being held. At times this was a little on the noisy side - and we were able to hear the DJ advise the wedding guests that the music would end no later than 11.30pm! It did finish before midnight, so their was no noise during the night.

Once checked in at the hotel, I did go over to Crabby Bills to make a reservation for that evening. The noise inside was almost deafening, so requested a verandah or outside table. We were lucky and given a table on the beach - dinner with sunset and fireworks was an added bonus. Considering the place was packed - especially with a couple of large groups of young adults - the service was fine. The coconut shrimp was most enjoyable. The price was $46.00 for the two of us - a little overpriced, but it meant we did not have to drive and search for somewhere to eat.

Check out was quick and easy considering the number of people departing. It was obvious a number were doing a pre cruise overnight stay - and there was also a coach party departing.

Yes - the location is a bit remote - the hotel beach and pool area is a little on the small side - but this is Tampa. If you want a full beach and large pool then head to the resort hotels in St Petes or Clearwater Beach! For a one or two night stopover I found this hotel perfectly acceptable for the price I paid. For pre cruise especially It was ideal. For those without car rental - there are shuttle van services available - but not operated by the hotel.

as a side note - I had an alamo rental car - that i had chosen to drop off at the Westin hotel close to Tampa port. I emailed Alamo on reservation requesting information on shuttle services from the hotel/depot to airport and port - and was advised that they did not offer any shuttle services at all. This information is wrong! they DO operate a shuttle van service to the port - which was quick and easy with no hassle at all!

Room Tip: if you want a quiet room - request bay view at opposite end of hotel to 'Crabby Bills'

....in those pictures?
I have stayed at this property many times over the last couple of years on business. If I had my choice, I would not stay here. The rooms and staff are marginal when it comes to customer service. The rooms are old, not new like in some of the posted photos. Beware of the food in the bar restaurant. Every thing in this hotel "appears" clean, but it doesn't feel that way. Also, what's up with having soap and shampoo dispensers attached to the wall in the shower? Is this an hourly motel? Not my favorite hotel in this area. Don't waste your money here.

We are making a lot of changes. We will be updating our photos and more in the near future. We have just made changes to our restaurant. We are also making great efforts to maintain a "green hotel" the soap and shampoo dispensers help to minimize waste. The management and staff are excited about the changes going on and believe you will as well.

Our daughter recently moved to Tampa so we decided to come and visit. Our budget was tight so when I saw the deal on Expedia for air fare and this hotel, we signed up. I had read a lot of the reviews and I thought we would have a nice vacation. We were placed in room 620 on the bay side. The room’s air conditioner put out on minimal air, and when a thunder storm came through the area, it started raining in our bathroom. We asked to change rooms; we were made to wait an hour until a room was cleaned for us. The room we moved into obviously quickly cleaned; there was still hair in the bathroom from the previous occupants. The hotel is old and in need of updating. The wall paper was bubbled in several areas of our room, and the carpet obviously needed updating. The hallways were always warm. The worse part, in my opinion, was the fact that every night until 11 or 12 Whiskey Joe's across the bay played loud music that can be heard in your room. Every bass note is clearly heard. If you try to set out on the patio and watch the bay you can't because of the noise. The air horn is expecially nice when you are trying to relax on your balcony. On Sunday night, we had a 5am flight; they had a band playing right under our window until midnight. The noise in the room was amazing. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

There are a lot of changes and renovations going on currently at the hotel. We are aware of most of these issues and are hard at work to make the proper changes.

Don't waste your time or money here. I have been going here weekly for 3 years. Since the new management took over the hotel and crabby bill's restaurant is going down hill fast. yes they are trying not improve the facility but you can improve the management or the way they treat there customers. I will never be setting foot inside this place again.

Room Tip: do yourself a favor and pick a different hotel!

As of late April the hotel has switched both ownership and management. The management is working hard on making a lot of changes to benefit the hotel. This is a work in progress and we hope to have more in motion very soon. Thank you for your patience.

My boyfriend and I booked this hotel through Expedia after seeing great reviews that it was close to everything and it had a beach. Both of these are lies. We tried it the first night then ended up switching to Clearwater Beach.

The hotel is in a remote location, the only way to get anywhere is to drive at LEAST 20 minutes. Yes, they offer a shuttle but it only runs until 11pm. We did not have a car so we wanted to walk around the island, but there were no sidewalks to make that feasible with the busy roads all over the area. The beach shown with the chairs on this site does not actually belong to the hotel. They are rentals belonging to another company. The actual "beach" the hotel claims to have is VERY small and gross. The pool is falling apart and both of these areas are right next to an 8 lane highway. It is loud and impossible to get any relaxation near.

The room itself is NOT remodeled as this site says. Only the lobby has been done. They're in the PROCESS of remodeling. Our bathroom had hair in the drain and pee in the toilet. The entire hotel smelled a little funky.

My only positive about this hotel was that they were willing to give us our money back and did at least apologize.

Room Tip: Do not get a bay room before you go, ask when you get there.

Upgraded, large bedrooms and bath rooms, fabulous views on the water side of the property with a nice swimming pool area, beach to walk on with dock and jet sky rentals and nice relaxing bar right next to the property on the water.

Room Tip: Make sure you are on the water side.

I stayed here with my niece and 2 granddaughters on the final 2 nights of our Florida trip. We had a 6:00 am flight out of Tampa Intl., so I wanted to be near the airport. At 4:00 am, it is a very quick trip to the airport.
I opted for the Bay view and what a view............We had a great sunset. Loved the outdoor pool. The hotel was very clean. Beds were comfy. Nice balcony with a couple of chairs.
This hotel does not include breakfast, but there is a restaurant on the property, which had a good breakfast for a decent price. Two adult meals and the kids split a kids meal, came to about $20.00.
I was able to get a good rate on this hotel, especially considering the bay view. I would recommend this place and I would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor for a better view.
